And to add to what 9mmepiphany said above, it wasn't so much that they weren't accurate, it's that they were picky with ammo (if you are looking for accuracy). Either way, it's a combat/duty minded handgun. How accurate do you expect it to be? We're not talking about rifles and carbines here. Way too much FUD with some of the comments.

And of course, do your due diligence and watch those prices. Some sellers are smoking something.

S&W redesigned the barrel lugs to lock up tighter. It was an accuracy issue.

Probably dumb question, but why was the M&P put on the roster? What was the reasoning, if there is one?

Why it was put on the roster? because S&W wanted it to sell and profit so they went through the process to have it on the roster?

If you mean to ask why it fell of the roster, there are plenty of threads on it. Has to do with the renewal process and S&W being unable to meet the new micro-stamping requirements since the technology (to do it in a cost effective manner) doesn't exist. S&W chose not to renew as a protest. Same reason a bunch of Rugers fell off the roster.

Thanks for the info, just sold my M&P40 and didn't even know it was banned from being sold by dealers.

                  It's NOT banned.

It still can be sold by dealers from inventory to someone who is exempt from the Roster.

It can still be sold by dealers if it's a consignment sale (PPT).

A dealer (FFL) still has to process the transaction if it's a PPT.

They are still available (as others) via intra familial transfer

I have a FS9 and 9C I bought while they were on the roster. They are not banned.

                      Rented/tried a M&P before?
Yes, carry on and good luck with your search.

No...go rent a Glock/XD, or even the SP2002, all fairly priced and competitive to the M&P. I prefer either 3 actually, but that is just me...so go rent.

Way to stay on topic. Has nothing to do with what the OP and thread is about.

I sold one of my BNIB M&P 9 full size for $600 in Jan. Maybe the same person is trying to flip it?

Don't feel bad. Before it drop off the roster, we've got one on consignment in the shop, he eventually sold the gun at price just a little bit better than yours.

This begs the question: When did you sell it? If you sold it after 1/1/2015, than we appreciate your kindness and I am sure there is a very happy Calgunner out there
