OP just agree on a price and give him $2k or what ever it's still very under valued and walk away.

Just tell them it's a present. Remember you are friends after all.

I personally soing ever buy a python, because I just couldnt afford one or afford to keep and take care of it as it should. But my buddy has one and they are NICE!

Good ... level with him, make sure he understands.

My friend sold me his dad's Beretta 92FS ... his dad left it to him after he passed. But my friend Howard, we call him 'Howie' - Howie doesn't shoot He thinks guns are ... well ... we'll not get into that.

So, he knows that I shoot and so he called me and he said he wanted someone to have it, enjoy it, but not sell it away. He wanted to keep it in the family, we consider ourselves brothers ... true brothers.

I made him understand that I cannot pay half market. But I made him understand, I insisted we make a better deal.

I'm guessing Rick Grimes/walking dead caused these things to be even more popular and harder to get recently? I've never even heard of a python (im not a revolver guy) or seen people talking about them until the show. And since that show started I see tons of posts about everyone wanting one and how hard they are to get etc.

                Just an observation.

Just buy it. Don't wait, stall, hem or haw - or second-guess. If you are making the deal better for him, so be it, but I still have a feeling you'll come out ahead.

That would be the price of a beater/no box, well-worn/well-shot stainless 6" that looked to have been under a car seat for 25 years.

If he's a close friend, and wants it to go to someone who's not gonna profiteer on it, you've told him what it's really worth, and sweetened the pot a bit, buy it!!!

In the time it took to say "would I", there would already be a payment for it.
