    Quick Access Safe

Looking for some advice on storage. I tried searching but didn't have much luck on what I was looking for. I own a single pistol for home defense and kept it in the bedroom generally. Now that there is a child on the way, I am looking for some secure quick access storage recommendations.

Anyone have good experience with some quick access safes? I'm wondering if a simple electronic keypad fire safe designed for documents would be sufficient, or if one specifically designed for handguns would be preferable. Any specific unit recommendations?

    Thanks for the insight.

We have a couple of these (different bedrooms) and they're very good. Quick access, reliable, secure, can be bolted to furniture, etc.

I'd recommend the Gun Vault as well. But there are several other companies making similar types of quick access safes, if you don't end up liking the GV.

Any decent local safe/locksmith store will probably have several different models from different companies to choose from if you want to get a look before you decide what to buy.

        GunVault

Fast access, probably 2 second to type in the code on the handpad (you can use a key, too), 1/2 sec for the door to pop open (spring loaded). Bolt it down or use a steel cable to secure it.

I've got a couple - desk, closet, car. Two different sizes - mini and standard (two shelves). Deluxe is lit inside/Standard no lights. Forget about BioMetric fingerprint stuff.

Costco is selling it with the steel cable.

Paperwork - get a safe deposit box - rental fees are tax deductible if you keep tax paperwork in it, and definitely fireproof.

I spent weeks going over this issue for the same reason a few years ago. Ultimately I settled on the purchase of a full size fire rated safe for my documents and firearms that do not need to be accessable in an emergency. For the nightstand I ended up buying a GunVault http://www.gunvault.com/. There are a few knockoffs that are very easy to open, be sure you know what you are buying.

I wanted a biometric safe but decided on the regular after talking with several users that had trouble with the print scanner not working 100%. The GunVault is easy and fast to open with just a little practice and is DOJ approved if that matters at all to you. There are similar safes out there.

Read all you can and understand your options before you buy, and remember that quality only costs you once. I examined several "safes" that look like a 5 year old with a screwdriver could open with little effort.

If you want to keep one close you can use one of these.

I have a couple quick access safes very similar to the 'gun vault' model, the only problem I've found is that if the batteries are low, the solenoid actuating the release latch doesn't stay open long enough for the door to open. Don't know if that is a problem with the gun vault brand.

I have a Gunvault and I like it. But I'm going to try one these. Titan Gun Vault http://www.titangunvault.com/
It's DOJ approved and it looks easier for traveling.

Umm, where does the gun go? I'm kidding.

The video was "interesting." The Holster pops up, and, technically, the magazine was outside of the box. The model (female) didn't even rack the slide. Kind of lame demonstration - they could have done better.

Could you legally have this in the front seat of your car or truck?

The Titan looks interesting, but I couldn't tell if the storage capacity allowed for more than one magazine. They had another video on the site, but it was still images of different setups. The under the bed mounting is what seemed appealing, rather than a stand alone safe. Are there competing products of this type that you are aware of?

I have a Gunvault and am happy with it. It bolts down nicely and easy access.

Gun vaults are sweet. I just wish I had bought a bigger one.

This is what it is all about. doesn't get much safer than this and you can mount the darn thing right next to your bed in the middle of the room....http://www.safemart.com/Biometric-Gu...Safe-20700.htm

The biometric readers are not 100%. They fail to read a valid fingerprint too often for me to trust my life to one. For a secondary safe, no issues. GunVault can be mounted within arms reach of your bed without looking odd.
