    Looking for a .22 pistol

    1) I've always wanted a Ruger Mark III 22 or 22/45 type of .22 pistol.... with the SSE expired, what .22 pistols are available now?

    2) I see some SSE items for sale in the handguns CGN marketplace... is it still possible to buy these items privately?

My Mrs. has a 22A-1 and likes it a lot for plinking and shooting steel

Bought it last year, no SSE

      Looking for a .22 pistol

Go for a Buckmark. They were not common in stores before, but were always the close #2 choice behind Ruger and are now easier to find in stores with Ruger gone. Personally I prefer the Buckmark anyway. Check out the rimfire section here and Rimfire Central forum.

Buckmarks are very good pistols. I have 2 of them for target shooting and teaching the kids marksmanship. Very reliable and I cannot complain with the accuracy. It's not as rugged as a Ruger, but if you give it the proper maintainance the Buckmarks will last for a lifetime.

If you watch/search the classifieds, you'll see Ruger Mark series (I, II and III) show up. They are now much pricier than before since Ruger stopped selling semi autos in CA.

Smith and Wesson 617's also pop up every once in a while...but also quite pricey. They shoot amazing, just as the Ruger Mark III does. Both a blast to shoot. Quite fun. Too bad 22lr is still hard to find and way over priced when you do find it.

There is also the 1911 22lr route. Either dedicated (browining, ATK/SIG) or slide kit (Kimber, Beretta, etc.). The slide kits tend to be expensive and picky on what 22 they cycle with.

I believe the Browning Buckmarks are still avail. Very similar to the Ruger Mark series in shape, but have no experience with one, so can't comment. An option though.

I just picked up a browning 1911-22. I'm going to shoot it this weekend for the first time. I recommend looking in to one of those if you're a 1911 fan.

I recommend a Buckmark. It's accurate and eats any ammo you feed it. It's also fairly inexpensive.

I have picked up a Mark I (Standard), Mark II 4.75" taper and a Mark III 6" tapered in the last 3 months. 8 more days in jail for the Mark III.

You mentioned only Ruger Mark III, many people prefer the Mark II, don't discount that one unless you want a new gun.

If new, then go Buckmark for reasonable, or S&W 41 or 617 for awesome and expensive.

Figure out what you like best, shoot as many types as you can and good luck.

Let us know what you get.
                      Good luck.

I've had a 22/45 for years (was actually my first pistol) and always enjoyed it, but I recently got a Buck Mark and I think I prefer it to my Ruger.

Anything special to buy these off roster guns now that SSE has expired? Or is it still allowed in private sales?

Private Party Transfer (PPT) of a used or "new in box" gun at a local FFL. You and the seller meet, inspect the gun, exchange money and fill out the paperwork.
Check out the I-Trader rating for the seller. If he has a lot of deals and 100% or close rating, not much to be concerned with. Talk to the seller and get a feel for his nature if needed.

Keep an eye out in the Marketplace here. I think I saw a 22/45 not long ago.

(Edit: Apologies as required for the babysitting above, looks like you have done this.)
