New Member: Just got a Ruger 22/45.

I am new here and this is my first post.

I just purchased a Ruger 22/45, are there any users with this pistol. What ammo do you guys recommended? Where should I buy the ammo and what is the standard going rate for 22lr?

    Thanks!!!

    Welcome.

You got a great gun...I got mine used; it eats all varieties of ammo.

Ammo prices vary - on-line is usually cheaper... if you can get a deal on shipping. I have occasionally stumbled across 22LR at WalMart; but, it's not really a reliable source with all the hoarders.

You might have a look at the Rimfire Central website forum (just google "rimfire central") - they have a great bunch of folks who are real experts - and, a sub-forum dedicated the the 22/45.

Just throwing it out there, at what point is someone considered a hoarder with 22LR?

Welcome to the forums. Check out SGAMMO.com they usually have good prices and their service is great. I also heard walmart actually has good deals on .22 somtimes.

Shot one at a shooting lesson that was my instructor's. I had so much fun with it I bought one from the marketplace. I got a great deal on it, the guy and I became friends and it is a very fun, accurate pistol.

I haven't had any issues with specific ammo yet.

Congrats on your purchase. I have been very pleased with mine. Did you get the model with replaceable grips or the molded in ones? Mine was the molded but I had kingshouse on rimfirecentral mod it to take grips.

Pretty much any .22 ammo works with the pistol but unfortunately there is still a shortage (of reasonably priced) .22 ammo.

Welcome to Calguns! If it runs as good as my Mk III, it should eat almost anything.

I try and stick to plated rounds to make cleanup easier, but it is not required. Prices on 22LR range from .04/rd to .12/rd, depending on where you find it and the exact type. I would expect to pay .08 - .10 per round unless you have a lot of time to dedicate to finding ammo cheaper.

Try some Automatch, or M-22, or CCI Mini Mags if you can find any.

I am picking up my 22/45 Target 4" from jail today. I got it used from a member here. I am going to mill off the molded in grip panels, drill and tap for 1911 slim bushings, customize some Hogue 22/45 Pau Ferro hardwood grips with some hammer/nail stippling and set in some Ruger medallions, and paint the frame FDE. Should be done in a day or two

Post a pic of your's in this thread when you can!

                Welcome to CalGuns!

I bought my wife a 22/45 5.5 bull barrel target model for Christmas and she absolutely loves it. It has eaten everything we've fed it. Very accurate too.

                Is this your first gun?

If you can find a major name brand of .22LR high velocity ammo that your 22/45 doesn't like let me know. I haven't found any.

Of my 3 22/45s one had extraction issues out of the box. A new Volquartzen extractor fixed it.

Welcome to CalGuns and Congrats on your 22/45. Nice pistol!

I have found over the years that if I just stick with CCI Mini-Mags (in all their flavors), I don't have any problems from any of my .22's. I shoot other stuff too, but I have an occasional problem. With CCI, no problems. I guess they are more consistent.

                      Just food for thought....

Another hearty welcome! Sorry, I do not own that rifle but I want to get my own rimfire someday.

Welcome to the best gun forum on the interweb

Calvin, if your local I may be able to help you out with a box of two of ammo. You'll pay the same that I did.

                              Welcome.
My Ruger MKs like CCI minimags the best, but try what you can find as long as it is not the "quiet" low velocity LR.
You'll lose a few rounds here & there and if the gun doesn't like a brand or two, that is your excuse to get a .22 revolver.

                              Good luck.
