    Is this 1911-22 any good?

Well I saw Turner's was having a sale on these. http://www.turners.com/american-tact...5-barrel-14234

I want one but I've never heard of this brand before but some rudimentary research seems to point to them being identical to the gsg 1911-22s just stamped under a different name. Has anyone had any experience with these? Does anyone own one? Is it very ammo picky? I want a 22 plinker just not sure if I should get this one.

This is the GSG 1911-22. It is imported by ATI. That's a great price. Mine likes the higher velocity stuff. It feels like it made from pot metal or melted Mattel hot wheels, so I replaced the slide with CWS's exoskeleton. It is a fun shooter.

Good warranty service? Is it cheap feeling? I want to make this my regular plinker. Did the slide not hold up? Or you just wanted to rrplace it anyways?

It probably would have held up, but the finish I think is painted on. It doesn't take long for the the finish to wear off. It won't last like the Ruger or Browning's Buckmark, unless you are willing to put some work into it, by getting accessories from places like CWS.

I ended getting a new guide rod, and bushing from CWS. But the factory one's didn't break on me either, I was just in a mood to tinker around with it.

The factory barrel is locked in place with a screw. If it isn't tightened down, then the accuracy can drift a little. To avoid this, I removed the screw and now have the barrel's position held in place by the CWS bushing.

All that I have done was just for fun and for the sake of tweaking this thing. The GSG shoots fine right out of the box. I've heard ATI has provided good customer service. I'm not sure, but I'm about to find out. On a second GSG the extractors seems to be binding up on the barrel and not causing it to lock up properly. I'll find out how good their customer service is tomorrow.

For a training practice, lifelong shooter - really the Ruger Mark series or Browning Buckmark would be the way to go. But I have to admit the GSG 1911 is a little more fun to shoot. Because it feels like a 1911 in my hands. Analogous comparison, would be my 10/22 will probably last my lifetime, and is what I will use to teach my son when he gets older. But I hsve to admit, the HK MP5 22LR clone I have is a little more fun, and brings a little more smile to my face.

Not sure if you want a fullsize 1911 22cal but the Browning 22 1911 seems to be a really nice reliable 22. From all the reviews i read it eats up ammo. Accurate and just a nice 22. It cost $500 but i think its worth it. I like it because its soo small and reliable. Theres not too many reliable 22 handguns out there. It also takes down like a fullsize 1911.

Too much zinc alloy can lead to metal fatigue.
There is an article on it in The Truth About Guns.
As said above looks like you'll be replacing parts at times.

That is a great price. We don't have Turner's in norcal otherwise I would snap this up in a heartbeat. Fun and accurate. I love shooting mine although it is not without its shortcomings. As mentioned frequently, the finish is not the most durable. My slide shows some finish wear caused by the dust cover. I lightly sanded the dust cover and there has not been anymore wear. I almost exclusively use the rear serrations to charge the gun and there is some wear there. The older ones had a grayish finish while the. Newer ones have a black finish wbich is perhaps more durable? At 8,000 rounds my recoil spring rod broke. This seems to be a common problem and ATI quickly replaced it for no charge. I did install a CWAccessories ss guide rod. At 12k the firing pin broke which was again quickly replaced at no charge. Lots of 1911 parts will fit. It is a shooter for me and not a museum piece so I don't mind the wear. It does prefer hv ammo. At that price I would have already bought it.

Ahh OK thanks for that explanation. I don't care about the finish. If its painted on I can always spray on a protective finish of some sort. I suppose it would be a good idea to premptively o4Der firing pins and recoil springs/guide rods so there won't be down time when mine breaks. But 12k rounds is still quite a lot to shoot. I imagine it takes most people awhile to shoot that much.

I bought the same model. Had a couple of stove pipes but I attribute it to the ammo and possibly needing of break in time. It is a fun shooter. The nice part for me is it is set up like my other 1911's in that it has the radiused back-strap as opposed to the more normal flat back-strap so the gun fits much the same as my other guns. The gun is made of zinc. It will last long enought to get 250 worth of enjoyment out of.

Okay, thanks. I have a Sig 1911-22, and I stripped the barrel-fixing screw. A bushing that would eliminate the need for that screw sounds appealing.

Whoops, yes CW Accessories. With their bushing I notice my groups have tightened up a bit. It becomes rather easy to one hole the groups at 7 yards, whereas, the original barrel fixing screw left just a slight spread on the group.

For my particular GSG the bushing did cause the barrel to point a little bit more upwards, so I had to use the higher front sight (or lower..ugh I forget how it worked?)

My buddies got one, I've shot it a ton. It is accurate as heck even at range! I'd buy one myself if I shot .22 a lot but if I do it's with my old bolt action remmy. Buy one if it's what YOU want.

I'm a bit torn now. Was originally in the market for a 22 rifle to practice my basic rifle skills. But with this pistol for such a good price I don't know.
