Dan wesson is miles ahead of colt in fit and finish! Yet both that I've had have been reliable and accurate. My colt would rattle when you would shake it, the wesson is rock solid and tight.Stay Low, Go Fast, Take Chances -
Colt...I had to chime in.
DW had a lot of mfg issues. Quality varied
Disclaimer: Yes I am prejudiced, I am a Colt dude

Colt has better resell valueComment

I have a weird opinion. I have had a Dan Wesson PM7 and a Colt 70's series full house custom. The colt was WAY nicer due to all the upgrades, but the DW was a solid 80 or more percent of the Colt because it shot so well, and it always just had the feel of a quality firearm. Either way, you can't go wrong.Comment

When was it that "DW had alot of mfg issues"? I know of the revolver issues and changes of ownership, but am not aware of any "1911" issues.
My Colt Defender is the 2nd most reliable 1911 I've ever owned, 1st is an old Detonics that I've had for about 35 years. My Defender feeds and functions with just about everything, including 255 grain LSWC ( H & G) designed for the 45 Colt revolver. Having said that, the DW 1911s I own (CBOB, PM7 & Heritage) are miles ahead of most Colts on fit & finish. I'll admit though that I'd like to have one of Colt's current 1911 repro 1911s.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

IMHO-
DW SSC .40..I had feed ramp, light primer strike and magazine issues. I sent weapon back and their customer service was great. I called them and spoke with the service, he mentioned in passing that the feed ramp and hammer spring issues were a mfg problem that had been resolved.
I went with aftermarket magazines and heavier hammer springs fixing the original issues. I like the weapon....now.
That being said it does not compare to my Defender or GC's. I also prefer a Springfield Champion to the DW.
