USP45 false reset Uptdate at #21

Interesting. Until now, the only handgun I knew about this occurring with is the Para LDA series of pistols; all of the examples I've owned had a false reset about halfway through the trigger release. I had to adjust to letting the trigger almost all of the way out, to the true reset point, to avoid failure to reset. Since the Paras were double-action only that wasn't a huge problem; if the USP does it in single-action mode, that would annoy me, too.

Can't seem to reproduce it on my old USP45 AE date, this handgun has a match trigger however.

Couple of things:

1) HK warranty extends to used guns also, but if anyone down the line modified a part, that part is no longer under warranty. If you send in the gun, they'll replace those modified parts at your cost and the warranty will once again cover the gun. Technically, detail stripping also nullifies the warranty, but I think it is a CYA, so as long as you know what you're doing, detail stripping doesn't void the warranty (at least it hasn't for mine).

2) You might be able to convince them to just exchange your trigger bar. Send in your old one, if they find a defect, they'll send you a new one. Save $$ on shipping. I did this with a used HK45c that had a wonky extractor.

I handled a new USP 45 at the LGS today and the reset felt awesome - smooth and one click.

The false reset will usually work itself out after a few hundred rounds if you have it.

UPDATE:

Sorry for the wait guys. I cannot confirm nor deny that the parts were installed by HK...

The inside of the trigger bar had a very slight groove worn where it may have been rubbing the disconnector. So new triggerbar installed and the problem is solved. The match trigger is in now too and I just fell in love with the USP all over again!

I should have replaced the trigger a long time ago! The double action pull feels tight like a new gun right now but is a much smoother pull with a cleaner break. Maybe a soft carrot break compared the original celery break it had before. (It is still designed as a duty weapon so don't expect zero tolerance glass or candy cane breaks)

The single action does have a little but of take-up after the reset but the trigger pull is much lighter with a crisp break. The reset is shorter and the trigger screw is adjusted to allow very minimal over travel. Over all no more mushy trigger, I couldn't be happier!

I had the same issue in my HK45C. I dry fired and shot it a lot to see if it would 'go away' and it never did.

I didn't want to pay for shipping for HK to fix it, so I ordered a new trigger bar and swapped it out.

It's perfect now!

I have a two 45 ACP USP's (compact and full size), that don't have the match trigger, and neither has this issue. I also have not heard of this with the USP's until this thread, but I imagine that it could happen the same as it does on the HK45C. I would probably just swap out the trigger bar.

Tagged..I picked up a USP45c in Dec and have yet to test drive it. I've been playing around with new compact rifles. Waiting for a special occasion to bust it out aND play. -g
