Trigger safeties

OK. You do realize we are talking about a gun that added the phrase "Glock Leg" to common usage......

The M&P is not a copy of the Glock, the only thing they really share is they are both striker fired, but they use completely different strikers systems. They do use a trigger face type of safety but that seems to be true of all striker fired guns nowaday's. Same with the drop safety or striker block, lots of guns use them.

Just as a note, the trigger safety is not a safety in the same sense as a thumb or grip safety. Its purpose is to prevent the inertial movement of the trigger/trigger bar should the pistol be dropped on the back of the slide. Much like the firing pin block keeps the pin from going forward if the gun is dropped on the muzzle. I pulled 3 Glock armorers manuals from different years and all three confirm it in different wording, I imagine the lawyers needed to do twiddling.

2009 Manual Page 14:

The trigger safety is designed to prevent unintenional firing when the pistol is dropped, fails or is subject to forces such as internal or lateral pressures.

2002 Manual Page 10:

The trigger safety is designed to prevent accidental firing when the pistol is dropped or subjected to an off-center lateral pressure or similar force.

1992 Manual Page 8:

If the trigger is not depressed, then the trigger will not move to the rear and the pistol will not fire. This is designed to prevent the trigger from got to the rear when dropped.
