I purchased an Armory Rack for my safe, but I also have a "cheap" ($7) solution I use when cleaning/working on my handguns.

I personally don't dig on my guns resting on anything..

these coated wire dilly-bobs are way over priced for what they are, but the concept is groovy..

damp patch down the pipe and slip it on.. drips in the pan and nothing contacts the guns finish..

I got this one. It works great, thick plastic coated and is stackable. The only down side is that the spacing is too small for large frame (S&W N frame, etc.) revolvers. It’s a few bucks cheaper on ebay from the same seller.

I bought some 99 cent coated pot lid holders at Big Lots. Dirt cheap and work well.

Not to start an argument, but that drip pan you speak of is for holding mags, ammo ect. If you look closely, any oil that drips out of the barrel is not going to fall into that pan and will actually run down that plastic coated rod and end up on the shelf of your safe.

Cheap yet efficient pistol rack

I have a couple of pistol racks that are made entirely from that dense grey foam. They will suck all the oil off your pistols at the contact points. I have relegated them to short term use at the range or on the workbench. Not good for long term storage.

Does it matter between closed or open cell foam? I got a Case Club case that has closed cell that I would like to use for storage

hmm, things you didn't know.. never looked at the back of the rack that closely.. seems as if oil would run down the underside of the wire, onto the edge of the tray, and everywhere else from there.. well, I haven't noticed anything in the tray or on the mags in there, but I only run a wet patch for storage so maybe it just doesn't form a drip..

either way, I still like the style, spots on the rug or not

between a 30" and 40" cannon, I still don't have the room for all that woodwork.. I plan on buying or making several more next field day for the less fortunate ones bagged on their sides

Not having the rack myself and from the way it looks on their website, that's how I made the "assumption"....and we all know what it means to assume, right?

you nailed it, I just realized it could be even worse

just lucky so far I haven't left too much oil on anything..

but I'm sure that one day, I'll be housecleaning and find a big stain somewhere..

and I'll immediately think of you
