Fired a SW 460 once. Didn't even finish one full cylinder. I gave it back to the guy and said "I just found out that .44M is my limit. Thanks!"

Now I try to get off the range if a .460 or .500 shows up on the line.

The .45-70 is low pressure and will make less power than the .500 UNLESS you do custom handloads.

The ported 4" and 8" 500s aren't bad at all. But the 4" wastes power (2.75" effective barrel length), and the 8" is so heavy you may as well carry a .44 carbine.

I went with the 5" unported half underlug 500. It's carryable (~3lbs), makes equivalent power to a 6" (tight barrel gap), and shoots great.

Most people give up after a shot or two. 15-20 is my limit with full power. Plenty good enough for a hunt.

(PS- try a derringer in .45-70 with leverevolution loads. That's some real pain right there. And never try it without the full sized grip. OR if you do, get slow-mo video.)
