I let several expire as I did not work nor vacation in the states.

I keep them for where I travel on a regular basis.

Utah requires a copy of your home state ccw IF there's reciprocity. California does not have that so it does not apply to Cal residents.

For the risk of sounding stupid, What is an "enhanced" Permit?

A few states, I think Utah is one, have a special classification for an "Enhanced" CCW.
It mostly would be required to take training in that state and gives the holder more places to carry.
Some states will not accept a CCW from a state where you are not a resident but will take an enhanced CCW.

Idaho has an enhanced permit and a 'regular' permit. The only three differences that I can figure out is that the enhanced permit requires more training, more states recognize it for reciprocity purposes, and it is not available to non-residents.

I'm headed up there in a couple weeks and even though my current permits are valid in Idaho, am going to submit the application for the regular Idaho permit. When I move next year upon retirement, I'll 'upgrade' to the enhanced.
