    Remora Holsters

As my CCW Holster experiments continues, I have ordered today a Remora Holster for my 1911 (Kimber Ultra Carry II).

I took advantage of a sale they are having this weekend: 40% off everything (code: BOO). Seems like a great deal on a well reviewed product. They say this is one of the most comfortable CCW holsters on the market, so I want to see for myself if that's true.

I ordered their original one with the Sweat Shield option, as it seems it will protects the 1911's Beavertail from poking me on the side.

Will update this when I get it and use it a bit. If anyone already has been using the Remora holster, be my guest and tell us what you think or even share pics. Thanks

Here is a very comprehensive review for your information... and entertainment

I've used it on my 3" 1911. It is decent, especially for super casual when you don't wear a belt though it does work better with one. Material is very grippy. Still feel better with a belt clip holster. I've hear it has got some attention from some of the lapd guys for off duty carry.

OP, I sell and carry Sticky Holsters, which are produced by one of the founders of Remora. The Sticky is my go to holster. Being they are very similar, (slight material differences) I am sure you will love your Remora, and it will have no problem with your 1911. The only time it doesn't really work is if your wearing a shirt tucked in, other than that, they are great. You have to trust it, most people worry about it falling or something because it doesn't have clips don't worry about it.

I recommend practicing your draw. After about 50 draws, and about 3 weeks of wearing it, you will be amazed at how well it works, and how comfortable it is. Remember, when you draw, and are ready to reholster, remove the holster, place the gun in the holster and then put the rig back. Don't try to reholster by just putting the gun back.

As for police using them, it's a crap shoot. Federal Marshals and a number of city police forces are not allowed. Some officers use them anyway. For Sticky we can sell them when used as a BUG or Ankle rig because they have retention straps. Some forces don't allow a gun to be carried without retention. Some require Level II or III, which the Sticky and Remora can't do.

You will be very happy with it.

        Thanks for the feedback guys.

I did receive my Remora Holster a few weeks ago and have been using it on my 3" 1911. While I carry the Glock most of the time (in a small Kydex Holster), I have carried the 1911 in the Remora for several days, and I'm quite pleased with my purchase. Really comfortable, very good quality.

Also, because the 1911 has a lot of non-rounded edges, the flexibility to change angle and move it to an ideal ride height and horizontal position is great. Despite this flexibility, the holster really does stay put as advertised, until you deliberately move it.

(sorry guys, not as sexy as the girl in the Video, I know I know)

The 1911 does not print any more than my sub compact Glock 27, despite its longer Grip. My wife knows I carry all the time, and on one of the days I was carrying the 1911 in the Remora, she actually asked "are you carrying right now?" she says it prints less than the Glock, and almost didn't believe I was carrying.

Probably the only thing that it lacks is the ability to reholster with the same ease as a Kydex holster. As previously mentioned, it is a good idea to remove the holster and then reholster, before placing the whole thing back into position. It's not a good practicing holster, for sure, but other than this, I am quite pleased with it. I believe Remora offers holsters that actually have the larger, fixed opening for the purposes of reholstering, I'll probably be trying that.

The Remora holster does have a surprise benefit. I notice that when you have the gun holstered and lying on the table, the surface of the Remora is so grippy that you can actually pull the gun out and the holster will not move from the table. Because of this, I've realized that the Remora is a really good "Home Holster" as well! It's become my overnight holster of choice, as I leave my gun on the nightstand, it's so easy to pull it out and its ready in my hands. I also have night sights so I know exactly where it is in the darkness.

Lastly, if I'm watching TV or sitting at one of the tables in my home or in the backyard patio, I have the gun laying at rest nearby and it's so easy to just pull it off the holster with one hand while it's resting on a surface (this is obviously not recommended for homes with children running around the house).

Remora - a really innovative "Carry" and "Home" holster as well!

I stopped looking for holsters when I found the Remora. Best IWB holster IMHO for many reasons:
            1. It won't set off the metal detectors. I'm not allowed to carry my gun into many of the buildings I work at during my day. With the Remora, I just remove my gun. The holster stays in my waistband. Lots of time saved.
            2. I can carry it with any cant I want, FBI, straight up. Whatever I want.
            3. It is soft and very comfortable, no metal clips or kydex to stab me when I am moving around during the day.

Everyone should get one of these.

I don't know if my remora holsters are defective but they aren't that grippy. It sometimes pulls out with my gun when I draw. If I like my Winthrop for my xds I'm ditching the remora for my cw9 and replacing it with a iwb holster with belt loops

That is why Mike who founded Sticky Holster left Remora. He wanted a fabric change.

I do have to ask if you used any cleaning solutions on the Remora. The friction based holsters have very specific rules for care and feeding.

I sell and use Sticky Holsters, unless I need to wear a tucked in dress shirt were I prefer an Aliengear.

As a holster dealer, I have a selection to choose from, and after next months Shot Show I am sure I will have opinions on more. But after not having something attached to my belt, I really dislike having to go back. It's necessary sometimes, but it will be interesting to read your follow up report.

I love my Remora holsters. They were the best solution for me to be able to carry in basketball shorts to the gym, plus they are very reasonably priced. I've bought two for myself and two more as gifts.

+1 for Remora with my Glock 42. I also use their mag carriers in my back pocket for my spare Glock 19 EDC.

I cleaned it with dish soap to see if my body oils were causing the problem. I really like that it doesn't take up much space in my pants and that I can position it any way I want, but it coming out with the gun is a problem. I may give sticky holsters a try or go with the remora micro holster that has a single belt clip

I have mine but don't have my permit yet, been using it around house with my XD9 to get use to it. I like it alot. I want to get another one customized for my glock 19 with a TLR1 on it next. They want me to give them my measurements to get one done.

It works well but doesn't seem as sticky as some say...not sure if I need to do the soap wash.

Is it a pain to use the bathroom when your out in public though and how different is sticky holster?

I use one during the work week, first for a G30 and now for a G26. I would not say they are overly comfortable or steady. But they are convenient. I use it because I have to remove my firearm and stow it before entering work, and then replace it after work, so being able to pull the gun and holster together our of my waste band and into the car safe is nice. Also I like that it can double as a pocket holster. When not a work day, however, I prefer to use a nice hybrid holster instead.

Sticky Holster asks uses not to use soap on their products, my guess is Remora is the same. Sticky says to lightly use Windex, or Murphy's Oil Soap. DeSantis as an example says use of products such as Dawn dish soap voids your warranty.

I don't sell Remora so I don't have their specific instructions.

Sticky Holsters founder was an original founding member at Remora. He will tell you the split was over the new material that Sticky Holster is made of. I have little reason to doubt him. Whatever you do, don't ever use soap on these things. To be honest they aren't absorbing anything from your body. Wipe them down with Windex and your done.

If you order a Sticky Holster from PackinFurDefense, I will give you a 15% money back guarantee. If your able to come by Del Mar this weekend well be at the gun show. Bring your gun by, and try it with one of our Sticky Holsters. If your in South OC we can get one to you for trial. At $25 they are hard to beat.
