Can you use a holster designed for appendix to carry at 4 o'clock?

    Hi All,

Have a noob question and hope someone can provide me some guidance...

I'm looking to carry concealed inside the waist at 4-5 o'clock. Due to my work, I have to be able to take the holster on and off fairly easily, so I'm looking for a holster with one clip rather than two.

Was wondering if one can wear an appendix style holster as a single clip holster at 4-5 o'clock, or vice-versa?

    Thanks!

This is my favorite IWB 4:00 holster

I have one for my S&W M&P40c and one for my S&W 1006.
With a good carry belt it will even hold my Full Size metal S&W 1006 securely and still be easy on and off.

Personally I like it with a 15% cant but if you also wanted to use it for AIWB the no cant would be best.

Yes you can OP, but the cant of an AIWB is likely different than a single clip that's advertised to be carried 3-5 o'clock.

You can do it the only draw back might be the cant of the holster. Most appendix carry holster's are a straight up draw, while most people who carry in behind the hip prefer a slight forward cant. It may require you to adjust your draw stroke a bit, so practice a bit before you actually carry it.

If you want to drive a little bit go see grantar2. He will let you try some different setups.

The answer is yes generally, the question is will it be comfortable or functional, that can be problematic. If the holster does not cant, and some don't and you didn't say which brand your discussing, the gun will hard to access when seated, when kneeling or in a hand to hand situation where the body naturally moves into a lowered center of gravity.

To many CCW I have come across don't practice drawing seatbelted into their car, sitting in an office chair (those arms are rough), or well pushing off of someone (blue gun best here). If the holster is straight up and down it can make concealing the grip problematic as well as wear on furniture.

There are models of holsters that work perfectly in both positions, for most guns, but like anything requiring critical reliability there isn't a one size fits all.

A depth adjustable, cant adjustable, tuckable model might be worth trying before you buy. https://packinfurdefense.com/product...ck-19-23-32-rh

Yea, but the holster wont be held in position as well at the 4'o clock position.

Thank you everyone for the information! I was looking specifically at the new Alien Gear ShapeShift holster.

I tried my buddies double clip IWB Alien Gear holster and I really like the way it felt; and I really like the idea that I can wear a double clip holster on my off work days and change it to a single clip on work days. But the only concern is that they advertise the single clip IWB as a appendix carry setup, which I am not a big fan of.

I just got an A.G. 3.0 and it is pretty nice, but I was wondering if the shapeshift would be better for your purposes. It is hard to tell just how much thicker it is than the 3.0. Access while seated, especially in a vehicle, is important and I wonder if you need a double clip. Your physical attributes make a difference as well as what you plan to carry and wearing what. Before making a decision, I would also encourage you to see Grantar.

I SHOULD HAVE READ MORE. I SEE THAT HE'S ALREADY POSTED IN THIS THREAD.

He closed his store in Mission Viejo.

He has a kiosk in Lake Forest and still does some gun shows.

                      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Depends on the gun. If your talking a P238, Shield, Glock 26, or the like, the Alien Gear is serious over kill. It's like taking a semi tractor trailer to go pick up your pizza. Can you do it yes, is it comfortable, yeah until you try and park it.

If the gun is a G19, G17, Sig 226, then yes it can be a good choice. The shape shifter is a great concept, but like most multi tools it's seldom as effective or as efficient as purpose built tool. If you lived where you were going to carry OWB during the winter (under outwear) or Didn't really carry daily it would be a great choice. Northern California, maybe this works, So Cal it's just neat but when really used daily not so hot. The Alien Gear 1.0 and 3.0 are purpose built. Sort of like a good knife, vs a Swiss Army Knife. In most cases I would prefer a good lock blade or fixed blade.
