There are plenty of good options. Low end price wise is The DOJ approved Snap Safe XL that I sell for $34.99 all the way up to the Titan Vault which runs around $350.00

The first uses a steel cable around the seat rail and the box is hidden under the driver or passengers seat. The later is usually bolted somewhere in the car.

Console vault is well made but the crook is going to look there an may exert a little more effort to see if they can pry the box out.

Name your price and desired storage location.

These mini car safes are available in keyed alike sets:

This allows you to carry one key for safes in two different cars...

Keep in mind that these are designed to be discreetly (conveniently) slipped under a seat, and they are intended to prevent smash and grab thefts.

If you think you need a real vault, you will need to spend much more and deal with finding a place to put your vault.

Either of those two will work. Make sure that you have sufficient room under your seat for the one from Amazon. You seat drive motors and heater vents may make that harder than you think.

The electronic lock has all the issues of anything electronic it will power down when most needed. As a rule open it 100 times and do it with your eyes closed so that you have muscle memory. Your not going to use it as quick access because you have a permit, still repeated studies show many people can't dial 911 on a cell phone or remember their own phone numbers under pressure. Keep the key with you anyway.

As for the Snap safes DOJ doesn't approve containers that can be opened with a screw driver. These units have reinforced plate inside and the locks are protected from access. Of course given sufficient time a full on safe can be broken into, but none of the boxes mentioned are going to be easy.

The thief supposing he found the box would have an easier time cutting your seat rail off and taking the box with him. Most don't come with cable cutters.

Most of us can work keys in the dark. Just make sure they will fit.

Thank you grantar2, I thought the snap safes were made of hard plastic, I must have been looking at a different one. Also I will measure the room I have under the seat, that is an excellent tip.

                Just some basic comments...

Make sure it's high quality enough
Make sure it fits where you need it to
Make sure it holds the gun you need it to
Make sure it's easy to access and you can access from the driver's seat

Console vault stuff is pretty good btw.

I have a similar, heftier box I would like to bolt to the floor instead of using a cable.

Can anyone provide a link to some instructions or step-by-step on how to accomplish this? My concern is that I have read in a few places drilling into the floor of your car can introduce rust. I don't know much about cars, or rust. Is this a disaster waiting to happen? My car does not have good solid mounting areas other than the floor, and they don't make console vaults for my car.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Really heavy steel, protected lock, and interior seams. You couldn't get a screwdriver between the sides if you wanted to. Going to need a hammer and chisel. May still not be the right solution for you, but definitely robust.

Your not trying to protect the gun if the whole car gets stolen. Certainly happens, but if your in a situation where you can't carry the gun, school grounds, post office, city hall when in session, going to have a couple of drinks with clients or friends etc, you need to be able to secure it. Far better to lock in in the car well in restricted space than to just leave it home.

Liability wise, locking the gun in a DOJ approved container, says you have done the responsible thing.

The hard steel, and heavy gauge cable means the guy slamming a sparkplug though your window to grab your registration, garage door opener, anything of value in you glove box, or center console doesn't get your gun. Most don't come equipped with bolt cutters, may or may not sweep under the seats.

Just the responsible thing to do.

                          Talk to a body shop.
But yes it can induce rust, if you get the wrong spot you can get electrical cabling, fuel lines, etc. Also it really screws with factory carpet in a way you can't appreciate until you have done it. A good car interior guy can be invaluable if it's a nice car. The problem with bolting it directly to the car is access. Take a box, a small card board box will work. Put it where you want to have the box mounted, with some double sided tape.

Now put your gun or a toy gun in the box, and make sure the box cannot be seen, it's far enough under the seat you wouldn't see it, might not even feel it if you did a light fingertip sweep. Now retrieve your gun. Is it easy enough you would feel comfortable doing it in the dark in a parking lot, at home, at work. Bolted means your going to have to move your seat all the way forward and then put it back, or put it somewhere the box can be seen?

Now with a cable, you have it around your seat track, and you pull the box to you in the rear footwell where its easy to access, and push it back under the seat where it can't be seen.

Sorta have to try it to appreciate the difference.
