Guns and Concealed Carry - What magazines do you read

60 views and no one here besides bluenoise reads?
The reason I ask about the magazines is because I am using this group as a first cut sampling, to see how we might advertise. We have bet a lot on opening a Concealed Carry only store, and with the So. Cal market stagnant, we need to cast a broader net. That being said advertising is very expensive, and since so few stores advertise concealed carry products, (mostly manufactures) it may just be that it doesn't work. We don't know.
Non gun publications frown on taking firearms related adds, and it would seem natural to talk to people who are interested in guns. This group in generally more interested in guns than the average, and this group obviously has an interest in concealed carry.
I am not trying to sell anyone a magazine, just trying to figure out where we might get the word out.Comment

I used to read one in the eighties called gun tests. They took no advertising. They beat the crap put of stuff and posted their findings.
I used to ogle g and a, but found nothing like honest reviews, largely because of the advertising conflict.
Occasionally, I look at american rifleman. My dad has a subscription.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..Originally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. I have to admit I consider USCCA's Concealed Carry Magazine a must read, and I get a lot of info. Add their weekly newsletter and its a value. On the other hand they do tend to spam you to death for their membership insurance product. But the magazine and access to online back issues are more than worth it.Comment

I haven't found that to be the case. Certainly there are advertisements, which are CCW focused so in that regard helpful, but the articles are almost never product focused but training, concept or based on analysis of a real incident focused.
The longer the magazine has been published the better it's content has become. In the issue with the first link I thought the mental prep issues and gun choice discussion in "your concealed carry mission" were worth the read as was "you might have to retreat" Not sure how either would class as ads. When was the last time you saw an article on "10 Tips for Bicycles" How to fight back from your bike for our mountain biking friends. Medical Skills for the armed citizen. All of the aforementioned articles are in the same issue.
All magazines require ads to be profitable, but there is more and better info in CCW mag that just about any other firearms mag on the market, and I read a host of them. The only down side of CCW Mag is that if you subscribe you can end up getting spam'd for their insurance products. But since these dozen plus issues are free and don't require you to give out any info, they are at least worth skimming.Last edited by grantar2; 05-15-2015, 8:45 AM.Comment
