    CCW Progress

I recently started the process to obtain a few non-resident permits (NV, FL & UT). I have summarized my journey so far:
    • 8-15-2014 Drive to Reno from NorCal
    • 8-15-2014 Attend Big Reno Show
    • 8-16-2014 Training in Gardnerville at Bullseye with Michelle Lambeth; Drive home
    • 9-16-2014 Drive to Minden to submit application; drive home. Almost 10 hours driving....ugh
    • 9-17-2014 Mail off Fl and Ut apps
    • 10-10-2014 Receive letter from Florida regarding missing info. Turned out I read the payment portion incorrectly. I misinterpreted "Electronic Fingerprints" since NV electronically made my card - duh. Pretty lame mistake. I was required to send them the $42 for finger print processing.
    • 10-20-2014 Received a call from the Douglas County Sheriff's dept informing me they were mailing my permit out today!
    • 10-22-2014 Received NV permit in the mail.
    • 11-03-2014 Received UT permit in the mail.
    • 11-07-2014 Received FL permit in the mail.

There is a company in Washoe county that puts on a one-day class and guarantees you will get out early enough to make it to the Sheriffs office. Something like that wouldve cut your time down considerably.

If you never leave California there is no reason to get an out of state CCW permit.

If you ever leave the state and want to carry, you need non-resident permits from other states.

I don't regret burning some bridges. I regret that some people weren't on those bridges when I burnt them!

                  (1) Because you may be living in a country where your sheriff basically won't give anyone a permit. And, you'll like to be able to legally carry a firearm for self-defense -- if not in this socialist Republic then in another state when you are traveling on business or for pleasure.

                  (2) Because even if you have a California permit, it won't allow you so carry in any state of the Union except California because by not recognizing permits from any other state and not allowing out of state permit holders to carry in California, this state has also guaranteed that it's own permit will not be recognized and accepted in any other state through reciprocity agreements. A Utah CCW is good in 33 states -- a CA CCW is good in 1.

As a California resident, the best case scenario is to have a California CCW from your local sheriff (if he's of the shall issue mindset, or if and when Peruta is upheld). And, have a Utah CCW. This will give you the legal right to carry in 34 states, plus a few other constitutional carry states (eg. Arizona).

                    1) (a) So that CA people may be able to Carry in certain other States that they travel to and; (b) So that CA CCW permit holders can Carry in States that do not honor the CA CCW Permit and; (c) you'll never know it might come in handy

                    2) Yes

Good point - Non-Resident CCW not honored in those States. Michigan is the only state on the fine print that will honor a CA CCW.

So in this case, a CA CCW Permit holder will not be able to Carry in CO FL ME NH and SC.

On my way to Front Sight now, time to renew my NV CCW, this will be my third renewal from Clark County. Never had a problem, the DMV on Decatur is always fast and easy.
