Provide material support for each reason you give, be specific. Harassment? Here is the restraining order. Threats? Here are the police reports. You get the idea, but make sure you back up each individual cause with specific documentation rather than presenting a general overview of the situation. Just remember that nothing is assumed. They will also give you the opportunity to provide additional documentation if they feel it is necessary.

Thanks for the guidance. I have lots of support docs re harassment - everything that was included in the case county brought against her. Will include in my packet for OCSD. Looking forward to my Wed. appointment.

4/15 GC received
6/4 received phone call from investigator. File submitted to Lt. For approval.
6/17 email approval, just need to complete training and fax cert.

OCSD is issuing. Everyone in process stay positive.

Definitely keep your initial appointment. After all, its only the first step in the whole process. Mine was three weeks ago. I was initially disheartened by the re-hearing as I had planned on using "self-defense" for my good cause. My initial reaction was to cancel and just wait, but then I remembered how long I had already waited for this opportunity, so I wrote a single paragraph using the space provided on the application (on the morning of my appointment, no less) that described a set of circumstances that I could find myself in due to the nature of my work. I was worried that it wasn't 'complex' or 'extreme' enough, but it was honest. As it turned out the deputy interviewing me later that day didn't even mention my good cause. He had reviewed my application prior to my name being called, and when I sat down with him he said that everything looked good, we did a quick review of my answers to the application questions, giving me the opportunity to change them if need be, he asked me to email a proof of employment letter to him, and that was it. He told me to proceed with the Live-Scan, but to wait until the results came back to take the training class in case there was anything on my record which would preclude my CCW eligibility. He even seemed a bit annoyed with how long its been taking for our Live Scan results to be processed by the various federal entities, stating that, unfortunately, we just aren't a top priority to them. He gave me a general time frame and said that eventually someone would be in touch. Last week a deputy came by for the residence check. Now I just have to wait. No money out of pocket at this point either. I'd still be waiting, regardless, if I hadn't kept my appointment, at least this way I am moving in the right direction. Who knows how things will ultimately turn out, but try anyway, and let them be the judge. Why automatically deny yourself by not following through? I got the sense that they are still just as willing to issue permits, you just have to put something other than the two words "self defense" even though it is all ultimately for self defense in the end.

I had a similar experience yesterday for my interview. All in all, it took about 15 minutes to get in, get photographed, get fingerprinted, and get called in. Then the interview lasted about 15 minutes. I would advise giving yourself some extra time. I neglected to think about how it may be difficult to park and find the proper entrance. I spent about 10 minutes parking and finding my way in.

My application was pretty much all clean, so no issues there. When I asked about good cause, the deputy more-or-less told me they're accepting anything beyond just writing "self defense." I was told they've processed hundreds of applications in the last few months and he's only seen maybe 4 denials and that was because the people lied about prior arrests. The deputy also said that lots of people are cancelling their appointments because they don't think they can come up with a good cause, but they really should be going to the appointments because they're likely to pass with whatever good cause they can come up with.

I was told to do my Livescan ASAP but to hold off on training until told to do so.

In my opinion the best advice I would give for your good cause is to keep it simple and think about the situations you'll encounter in life where you think, "I should go grab my pistol before we go out and do this thing." For me, that means going on bike rides after dark, going on hikes and camping trips (in areas where it's legal to do so), and when I'm buying or selling something on Craigslist.

Oh, one other thing to note:

Apparently my M&P 9mm I bought back in like 2007 was never registered to me. I'm going to have to go back to the gun shop I bought it at, where the owner is definitely missing that whole "customer is always right" attitude, and talk to him about getting the pistol I bought from him properly registered.

There may also be a problem with my Ruger LCP which I had a single shot exemption done on. As the deputy was reading off some things he mentioned I had a 22 registered, which I do not. I'm assuming the Ruger was registered as a 22 and then "modified" back to stock when it was handed over. This may or may not be a problem for using with CCW, which sucks because that's the reason I bought the thing.

All 3 of my CCW firearms are from SSE and they all say 22's as the caliber. The deputy that did my interview thought it was strange but didn't care about the caliber as long as the correct firearms were registered to me.

That's so weird that my time line is identical to yours but I have received zero feed back from Ocsd. So I've called a couple of times and the clerk says they have everything just waiting on backlog. So you are definitely fortunate to have gotten processed so quickly. Congrats!

There are some being processed faster than others for whatever reason...I work with a guy that has a timeline that is the same as mine with the exception that I did (and submitted) my training cert 2 full weeks before he did...he picked up his CCW on 5/22 and I too am still waiting on the "backlog".



• November 12, 2014 – Initial inquiry to OCSD for CCW
• February 27, 2015 – Initial interview with OCSD – Directed to proceed with Livescan and Training. Was also instructed to provide my DD-214.
• February 27, 2015 – Completed Livescan
• March 3, 2015 – Home Check Completed
• March 8, 2015 – Completed CCW training
• March 9, 2015 – Faxed CCW Certificate to OCSD
• March 14, 2015 – Submitted DD-214 (receipt verified)
• March 26, 2015 – En Banc hearing announced
• April 23, 2015 – OCSD Requested revised good cause statement
• April 23, 2015 – Provided additional good cause
• June 4, 2015 – Called OCSD to inquire on Livescan, was told that it was received “last week” and that my file will be submitted for approval within the next couple weeks.

I gave them printouts of some of my adds I've had listed through out the year showing the items are worth almost $1k each. The ads also contained my email and phone number to prove those are my items.
When I interviewed, my interviewer told me that Craigslist is no acceptable but they will except my other 2 reasons. I've done my live scan and residency check and waiting to get the word to start training. But I find it interesting that they accepted buying/selling on Craigslist for you when they told me it's not acceptable. Just wondering...... what supporting documents did you give pertaining to buying/selling on craigslist

I didn't provide any supporting documents. The deputy seemed like he really didn't care much about my good cause as long as I had something there and it wasn't absolutely retarded. I cited that I currently have like 9 computers in my home and upgrade/trade/sell them regularly but that's it.

Honestly, I don't even know how I'd be able to access my old Craigslist ads as they auto delete after like a month. All I'd be able to show is dead links in emails.

Hopefully there will more CCW issuance. I've read a couple of positive experience with those told to proceed to next steps post 3/26 interview. Has anyone actually had a CCW issued yet or pick up date?
