Really? Just an excuse not to start. Jump in. Remember the matches are not there for you, you are them for them. A hand full of shooters drag out all the sticks, stands, targets, steel, poppers, droppers, drop turners, swingers, Texas Stars, props, walls, set it all up, sign you up, run the match, and tear it all down at the end of day, long after you leave, and post the scores to boot. You will never know unless you participate... So if you want to learn how to shoot really quickly, and accurately, under stress, by yourself, not with a trainer coaching you, then start in. Otherwise you will be stuck shooting at a static target from a bench, all that shows you is that the gun functions.
I absolutely guarantee that after your very first match, you will be like "WTF just happened?" I should have jumped in years ago.... And when you smoke the CCW qualification course, the Deputies will say "Uh, do you shoot competition?" And you answer, "Yea, just a couple of times...."
Note: There is a down side, you give up golf, domestic chores, hanging out with the wife/kids on weekends, spend tons of money on gun stuff and reloading stuff, BECAUSE you are at a competition match every Saturday and Sunday. Yes, it does happen. And, then, the dark side, 3 GUN! A competition match that runs rifle, shotgun and pistol. Don't even think about it.
