Sheriff Sniff is a politician, and as most politician's do he is not telling the whole truth. He likes to portray himself as a pro-gun, NRA Sheriff, but in reality he won't issue LTCs for self defense.

Sheriff Sniff's CCW good cause policy is
Convincing evidence of a clear and present danger to life, or of great bodily harm to the applicant, his/her spouse, or dependent child, which cannot be adequately dealt with by existing law enforcement resources, and which danger cannot be reasonably avoided by alternative measures, and which danger would be significantly mitigated by the applicant's carrying of a concealed firearm.

        LTC Issue rates by county:
        Riverside County - 0.273%
        San Diego County - 0.302%
        San Bernardino County - 1.129%

LOL. How'd your appeal work out? We never heard anything about it here.

You should take all that angry energy and turn it into an effort at approval, instead of always bitc**** about your denial. The system is unfair and arbitrary. Sorry for that. Try working toward a GC that will work, instead of one that you had to know wouldn't.

Your issue rates look very dire. I think you forgot to point out that this is based on total populace of the county vs number issued. You need to take into consideration the number of actual applicants vs the total populace also. People like you scare away potential applicants, thereby perpetuating the low numbers in the very statistic that you reference.

My simple poll shows an almost 86% approval rate for those that attempt to apply. Seems to show a different side of things. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=477159

OP, honestly it does take a great amount of effort to get an LTC in Riverside County. You are going to have to search deep and get creative on your GC if you want to get approved. This is just the nature of what we have to deal with for now. No one but you can put the thought into your GC. It needs to be personal to your situation. It needs to be well thought out. Once you have a GC concept, there are plenty of people willing to help you fine tune it. But it is unlikely that anyone is going to tell you what your GC concept should be. There is no magic formula that works for everyone. Good luck.

There is no reason to appeal, my GC doesn't meet Sheriff Sniff's requirement. I would have to file a lawsuit and there are several already in the system with regards to carry.

My efforts are focused on making it clear that Sheriff Sniff is not the great champion of gun rights that many would have us believe. Let's not make excuses for our elected officials. Sheriff Sniff has a record and policy that I and many other gun owners don't agree with. Let's hold him accountable. Even if I was issued an LTC from Riverside County I would still be here bitc**** about the policy and procedures because they are wrong (and in some cases in violation of state law).

I don't want to play the game, I want to change the game. I want my wife and my daughter to be able to get a permit.

So you believe your non-scientific, internet poll with 35 responses is a more accurate representation of the data than the Calguns Foundation numbers? I guess Riverside County just has a really low application rate with a really high approval rate.......... It couldn't be that the CCW unit pre-screens applications and tells some applicants that they have no chance for approval and that they should not waste there money? Surely something like that has never happened.

If you really want the permit, you can come up with a way.

I NEVER said I agree with the system. I NEVER claimed that Sniff is a "champion of gun rights." I NEVER make excuses for the crappy system that we are burdened with. Didn't I just state in the post that you quoted that the current system is "unfair and arbitrary?"

I applaud you for wanting to change the game. We all should. But all you accomplish by *****ing about your denial every time someone brings up wanting to apply, is that you discourage a potential applicant that could help everyone by getting approved. I get so sick of your doom-and-gloom responses to the hopeful people that want to apply.

I honestly don't know how accurate my poll is. But I do believe that it has some representation of the process, and gives encouragement to those that need it and want to push forward. Maybe that's the difference: some people want to push forward and you keep looking back.

I sincerely doubt that the CCW Unit is "pre-screening" folks. My experience is that they may tell someone that their GC will not pass muster, but they are always willing to offer advice on sprucing up a good GC. Their telling someone "no" in advance of the application process could help that person come back with a stonger GC, instead of just letting them fail in the first place.

Bitc* about the policy and procedures all you want. But for God's sake, quit discouraging others while not sharing your whole application experience with them. All you're accomplishing is making the application process seem impossible to others. It is not an impossible system in Riverside. Just a difficult and inconvenient one. Try using your helpful words.

I never mentioned my denial (yes its in my signature but I made no mention of it), and you are such a cheerleader for the Riverside Sheriffs Dept I sometimes wonder if you or a family member works for them. Its not doom-and-gloom, it's data (I know facts can be pesky when they don't support your position).

It happened to myself and two other Riverside County residents that I shoot USPSA with. I had to insist that they take my application. Yes its anecdotal, but it reinforces my hypothesis.

All I did was post the facts: Sheriff Sniff's policy from his web site, and LTC numbers from Calgunsfoundation.org. The data speaks for its self.

What are the chances of a business owner granted CCW, besides large bank deposits. I own a Diesel Repair shop and deal with a lot of EMS vehicles, mainly Ambulances. I have stuck on the side of the road while test driving, have had to wait till a tow truck arrives, which at times can take a while. I find myself working on these units late into the night at my shop well after all my employees have gome home. Always worried that some nut job may come by and decide to take meds.
