Default Riverside County LTC - Were you approved or denied within the last 2 years?

If you applied for your Riverside County LTC within the last 2 years, were you approved or denied?

I would like to get a real temperature on the current approval rate vs. denial rate for Riverside County LTC's. I only request within the last 2 years, as I want to keep it relevant to what is happening in our County right now.

As you can see, it's a pretty simple poll. Answers are kept anonymous. Thanks for answering.

We'll have Riverside's data on this from them and DOJ within 30 days or so. Hard numbers should reflect the actuals, but their LTC program mamanger told me on the phone last week that denials were "scare" and that he could only recall a few (that he purported were for character/background check issues).

Whatever your result, it is what it is. However, if a person did any research at all and still wrote "Self Defense" for their GC, they are only setting themselves up for guaranteed failure. So, unless you are just testing the system or trying to make a point, I wouldn't recommend that approach. At least not at this time.

I know of one person who was told by Riverside to not even apply. Drive-by and vandalism not good enough.

At the end of the day it really does matter how you wordsmith it, it comes down to 'self defense'.

That is correct. The "wordsmithing" is the important part. Ultimately, the purpose of the words is to say "self defense" or "personal protection". Just not that simply stated.

If you read the RSO they will not give you a CCW for personal protection. This has kept a number of applicants from applying.

Yes, unfortunately it has persuaded some to not apply.

With Brandon saying the Riverside GC statements are due out in the next month, is it better to wait?

I'll volunteer (and have previously sent my info to CGF) to be a test case after the release.

Waiting or not is something you have to decide for yourself. Better or not is subjective. I'm pretty sure RivCo won't be needing any test cases.

For anyone wondering about the possibility of getting a LTC in Riverside County, look at the following report from CGF. Scroll down to see RivCo.

40% increase in issued LTC from 2010 to date, with 122 issued so far this year. Possibility of 89% increase from 2010 to end of 2011 if the 157 pending are approved! Who says no progress is being made?

I do remember the Riverside County Board of Supervisors issuing a statement about 18-24 mos ago asking the Sheriff's Dept to start approving more apps. Apparently its working.

I for one am waiting, I am anxious to see what actually qualifies in RIVCO compared to some of the off the wall causes I have read in other counties. After these are released I will craft my own GC and apply!

Approved 7/11
I agree, "Self Defense" will not get approved (unfortunately).
I wrote a complete page (I agonized over it for a long time) and discussed it with the CCW unit. They focused in on a particular area and I elaborated and justified it. They are very helpful and will discuss your justification with you up front.
