Ankle concealed

Need some input for a Ruger SR9C ankle holster. Do you think it is too big for ankle holster carry? Any recommendations for an ankle holster?

i would strongly recommend against ankle carry. whats holding you back from carrying it around the waist?

If you have to carry on the ankle, I could understand, but it is not the most comfortable. Plus, if you are thin and have thin legs, the grip is going to stick out real suspect like; you could try to angle it different ways, but it makes no difference. Nonetheless, no one will really be looking there anyway. Get a good one for as much comfort as possible, or get a cheap one if you are only going to use it rarely, or once or twice only.

Anyway, the ruger sr9c is too big in my opinion for ankle carry, but its a cool gun! Nice choice.

I've carried my Kel-Tec PF9 on the ankle once. I felt that it was too bulky. Not sure of the dimension difference between the SR9c and PF9 are, but the PF9 is a pretty compact lil gun... I would choose IWB our shoulder carry anyday over ankle carry...

I dislike ankle carry.
It has it's purpose and, IMO, is adequate for carrying a BUG (back up gun) and/or if you are not active and mostly sitting (at a desk or driving).

In the past, I have ankled carried a S&W Model 36 and a Kel-Tec P-32 using Bianchi & DeSantis ankle holsters.
For me, it felt akward and heavy to carry the S&W Model 36 this way and every time I tried to run, it felt like it was about to fall out.
Also, draw time is considerably slower than IWB or pocket carry.

Ankle carry is tough on and off. If you carry something light (j frame or small auto), after a week you adjust the weight/walk to accomodate. I carried a BUG 36 for 30 years and never had an issue. I had the same Alessi ankle holster for those 30 years which says something about quality of their products.

If you do ankle carry, practice your position/draw with a safe firearm. Drop to off-side knee and draw from ankle, keep eyes on target and practice this from a walk.

Quality holster won't cause you any concerns about running.

I am new to carrying. I am on the portly side. I picked up a IWB for my Ruger. No way is that going to work. I also got a Galco outside the pants leather holster for my Colt Officers .45. It seems ok, but I need longer shirts. I am wearing it at home to get use to it. It's cold now, so no issue concealing. I know when Spring comes I will have an issue. The angle type seemed an easy way to carry. Was recommended by someone that uses one.

I sure appreciate the input. Seems like no one likes the ankle type. I will just have to go thru the process like all the rest of you have.

I bought an ankle holster for my Sig P239. I only weigh 170 and the gun looks just like a gun strapped to my leg. Most uncomfortable I have ever had. I use a Galco deep cover inside the waist band.

I have not had much luck trying to carry a full size auto like your colt .45. Just too big a gun for me. I think in the winter I can do it, but most of the year I wear shorts and t shirts and just dont have enough clothes to cover the handgun. Even wearing a oversized shirt layered over the t shirt to try to conceal, it is just too difficult to look natural. Always a huge bulge.
So I started using a pocket holster with a snubnosed .38. Works perfect. Even in a pair of shorts and a T you dont notice the gun. Looks like a cellphone or something. The pocket holster conceals the shape and stays in the pocket, yet is easy and fast to pull.
If you dont like a snubnose, you could also try a small gun like a Keltec P-11 or something small.

As i always carry IWB with my 1911, i never thought of carrying on ankle. Thank you on the idea of carrying in ankle since i'm sitting on a chair most of my the time in my job. I will try to have a BUG (LCP) on monday

Last weeks episode of Blue Bloods demonstrated some of the problems of ankle holsters.

What is the specific problem with carrying IWB? I am also portly (a very kind way of describing my physique) and carry IWB every day. I thought it looked "obvious" at first, but I speak in public in front of people regularly - in the spotlight so to speak and no one has a clue I am carrying.

some of the new carriers are overly concerned about being caught. 99.9% of guys out there will not check another dude's waistline, and 99.9% of gals out there will never think of a gun even if they see something odd.

Of course, speak to a guy/gal that is familiar with CCW and its a different story, but those are the last people we need to concerned with

I carry an SR9c IWB, with no problems. I have a different build than you, but I would suggest that you look at another IWB holster. There are a lot of options out there, and each one rides differently. Also, play with where the holster sits. With my slimmer frame, I notice that 4 o' clock fits well, but if I move it just a little forward, it's very noticable. The cant of the pistol also makes a difference in hiding the grip end. I tilt the gun a few degrees forward and it helps a lot.

If you are handy, Old Faithful holsters sells kits that you assemble, which gives you a lot of freedom as far as cant and concealment depth. The price is also very good. Another great option is Remora Holsters , they offer a clipless design that gives you a lot of flexibility in your carry position so you can find something comfortable. I use the 6art holster with my SR9c. Don't be scared away by the clipless design, I carry one every day and it does not move at all. The old faithful is what I use for my full size Colt 1991.
