Any actions required after being pulled over?

If somebody was pulled over for speeding, given a verbal "drive safe" basically - no ticket no written warning or anything by a local PD - do you need to inform anybody about that? I thought I remembered in my original class being told that, but can't find anything specifically saying you must. I'm currently awaiting renewal and just want to make sure I follow any rules.

LA County rules state you should notify CCW office via email within 3 days of negative enforcement contact and states "arrested, cited, questioned, detained" but I'm not sure I was actually "questioned" and none of the others apply obviously. They never even checked my insurance or registration just took my ID and I informed them I was a CCW holder and let me go right away.

    Thanks

I'd let them know. A traffic stop is a detention. Besides better safe than sorry.

freefolk Thank you for including your LA County CCW timeline in your signature. My wife has been waiting for a call since she's been placed on the waiting list back in March 2024. Wondering if such long wait is normal for the LA County...

UPDATE: Just called LAPD line and there is recording saying they are currently schedule interviews for those who applied in November 2023. Wow!

A traffic stop would qualify as a type of LE contact that you should report to the isssuing agency, especially under LASD jurisdiciton.

My IA would expect to be notified in this situation. As already pointed out, you were detained.

I got pulled over in Colorado a few weeks ago. 45mph in a 35. Officer approached. I had my pistol holstered and under my thigh for the long ride. Had my hands out the window. As he walked up I told him I was licensed and carrying, and where it was located, and that's why my hands were out the window. All other windows were down for him to see my passengers.Another adult up front and two kids in the back seat. ( I didn't shut my truck off. Was just pulling of the hwy for diesel fuel at a Costco and didn't want to do the shut off/on with my truck in the middle of a long drive. I asked him if he wanted it turned off and he said no.) He opened my door. Asked to see my sidearm. Asked if he could take it. I said of course. He asked if I could place it in the glove box for the duration of the stop. I told him I have a lock box under the center console. He said perfect. Slowly grabbed my keys. Unlocked the box. Took my sidearm from him by the holster. Locked it up. He ran my info. Asked for reg/ins from the glove box. Let me go with a warning to slow down. It was a long day of driving and I just wasn't paying attention as I exited the hwy. He gave me his card and sent us off.

I emailed LASD the next day. ( I'm in the middle of my renewal and actually just waiting for final approval so I was hoping this wouldn't hold things up. ) They email back asking if I was cited and I said no. Still waiting on final approval. My permit expired almost two weeks ago. Started my renewal process in April. Had everything submitted by mid-June. Still waiting......

The irony of such reporting is that your CA CCW is no good in CO. You’re technically carrying legally by CO law as is without any permit.

CO has new CCW laws effective July 1st of this year. You can open carry. But technically anything out of plain view is considered concealed. I have my AZ and UT permits as well and since they have reciprocity I figured I'm better off informing the officer vs saying nothing.
Also, not knowing if my name were to pop up in some national data base that my info was run by another LE agency, I didn't want to jeopardize my permit..nor the renewal I'm currently waiting for.

Just looked up Colorado laws since I am planning on visiting there soon. As a CA resident with nonresident AZ & FL permits, I cannot carry concealed outside of my car. Open carry is legal except in Denver County and other municipalities. If you leave the car without your weapon, the weapon must be in a hard sided locked container out of sight.
