    Adding guns to ccw

How do you add additional pistols to ccw permit? How long does it take? Do you really need to do it?

its typically on the same for as the originals
make sure you get certified on the guns you want to add
    add/delete as necessary
i think its 10 bucks to have the change made
how long would be probably dependent on how long it takes to get appointment
yes, its necessary if you want to carry a firearm not on your permit

first thing to do is go qualify on all that you want to add.
then call the issuing department and tell them you'd like to add to your permit,
most departments stick to the 3 gun limit and they will probably say so at that time, thats when you need to decide what stays on your permit.
they'll say you need to get qualified on the 'added' firearms, you say, you already have, and provide the certification of such.

Its a pain in the *** that they only let you have 3 on the LTC. But I understand that there isn't much room on the card. But damn, I have quite a few guns I would like to add to it

San Bernardino does not require a qualification, only a weapon inspection and to run the serial. It costs $25 for a change. They will call you when the new card is ready, and you have to turn in your old card.

$24 in San Berdo... made the $1 donation myself before San Berdo also puts mods to the back of the line. It takes about 4 weeks for them to do a modification and yes they make you drive all the way back to exchange your old card for your new one. Seeing as San Bernardino County is the largest county in the lower 48, it can be a real P.I.T.A. to drive to San Bernardino depending on where you live. Of course they do give you the option to leave your old CCW with them (meaning you can't carry) and they'll mail you the new one in a month to save the drive.

To the OP, this is a topic that is different from agency to agency. You need to check with your issuing agency about how to handle that and how long it takes.

+1 on the SBC info, but mine actually took more like 2 months since they're so backlogged. They did give me an option to hold onto my old one until the new one was ready. Then, I could either drive down in person, or mail it in. They promised to mail out the new one as soon as the old one came in, so I'd be without it for maybe 3-4 days.......so I drove in.

I still love 'em though. They do the best they can with what they have to work with.

Recently did it in Solano County. Qualified with the new gun, filled out the form, submitted my target, paid the $10.34 fee (how did they come up with that number) and then waited about 30 days. When I got called in, it took about 10 minutes. They issued me a new hard card and just typed a new line and crossed out the old line on the rice paper. Simple process. And as a side bar, I qualified with the trainer that did my original qualification (Dave Adams) and I want to give him some props. Very professional, polite and to the point and doesn't talk down to you like I experienced with one of the other instructors (who was totally rude to me on the phone) and when I qualified with the new firearm he did NOT charge me. Great guy and I recommend him highly!

This is not exactly correct. Tripper is speaking directly to a local policy, and not state law. You need to research the local policy by first calling the licensing authority and inquiring about their amendment process. Then, simply fill out the state standard amendment request form and submit with the fee (if any), which is capped at $10.

How do you pretend to know so much about this if you have never been thru it? The first thing you know, from actuall CCW permit holders, is that all counties are different. And it doesn't matter what you 'think' is right, it's all about what that Sheriff says is 'right'

In San Bernardino there is no "amendment request" The deputy checks the weapon and runs the serial, you sign the new card. Pay your $24, not $25, and a few weeks later, you get a new card.

I did say that, and you continue to ignore my (and everyone else's point) point. The last thing I do is pretend to know something about the carry permit system here in California.

All counties are different, and that's the problem: they are not supposed to be under the State's regulatory scheme. What I think is right is less important than what the law says. The sheriff isn't "right" simply because he wears a shiny brass badge; in fact, he or she is FAR more likely to be WRONG if they hail from California, as the facts show.

There may not currently be an amendment request process in San Bernardino County, but there will be before I'm done.

There are many reasons to desire the association of more than 3 weapons to a PC 12050 license.
