The Application, Page 6, Question 8, (see post above) is: If you served with the Armed Forces, was your discharge other than honorable. If yes, please explain. You will have to answer this question every two years on renewal, so you may as well get it laid out now.

Your 214 says Misconduct. That is not an explanation. Misconduct can cover a plethora of ills both significant or mundane. They'd like to know if you got softballed out or if they had you on some stronger issues but couldn't make the case. They are also looking for trends. If you got bounced for a DUI and you have had recurrent incidences, they would like to know that.

Regardless, my personal experience is what you did then is far less important than what you have done since and are doing now. Unless you killed somebody 21 years ago, this will not be an issue.

Not Being perfectly accurate on a date on a violation of law, not a felony, from 30 years ago has not prevented the issuing of a ccw in at atleast in Sacramento County. Giving basics of round about month and year and what the violation was has been sufficient. Definitely did not need to to some total records of your life request. Example being."Got a dui in 1991/South Lake Tahoe." End of story. Nothing but a three traffic violations, speeding tickets/no u turns , in 30 years.

Thanks to all that offered input, suggestions and advice. I provided no more or less than what they requested and that was that. My approval came in this past weekend. Time to do my research and find an entertaining place to do my certification course here in San Diego. The one I did in Texas was both informative and fun.

the class at Discount Gun Mart on Morena is solid, although I haven?t been since they changed it due to SB2. I did my initial and first renewal there with Kyle. Added bonus, if u ask he can roll your prints for the AZ non-resident permit. he did ours for no added charge a few years ago.

@xblax619 - I frequent Santee DGM a lot amd that was the primary on my list at Morena Blvd. Since my application was submitted prior to 2024 (2023 to be exact) I still fall under the 8 hour requirement. Thanks for the insight!

I am in a similar situation.

Back in 90' or 91' I was pulled over for expired tags (which were actually paid but hadn't arrived yet) and I had warrants for basic moving violations (four of them) so I was arrested and taken to Van Nuys jail. I got out the same night and cleared everything up. Nothing criminal, but I was arrested and finger printed (and they ask directly if you have ever been arrested).

I do not remember dates and what not so not wanting to be inaccurate I dicided to get a background check on myself. I was under the impression the FBI would have anything and everything related to me. I was wrong.

My "Identity History Summary Check" (Rap sheet) "revealed no prior arrest data at the FBI. This does not preclude criminal history at the state or local level"

So I wasted a bunch of money for nothing. I ended up saying screw it and I just submitted my CCW application this morning.

On the section where it ask if I have ever been arrested I said yes, and that I did not have exact dates but it was 90' or 91' for traffic warrants, four of them, and that I was taken to Van Nuys station. Said that I cleared them up straight away. Also that I tried to get more info but my FBI request showed no arrest history (paraphrased).

I scheduled my initial telephone interview for July... thought it was this July then after checking out (of course) saw it is for July 2025.
