I think he knows all or parts of SB2 will be struck down in time and I don't think he really cares. He got lots of PR out of it. Lots of time and money will be spent fighting it which is another win. It's a win all the way around for him even if and when he loses.
The sensitive places parts of this law won't stand and thats what you will see get changed first. NY and what NJ are a year ahead with favorable rulings? This part goes in front of a favorable/reasonable? judge before the end of the year. I am optimistic on an injunction on the sensitive places portion for that reason.
As far as the rest of this mess, as 2024 rolls around I am betting the counties that were reasonable to get CCWs in will stay that way as much as possible and the counties that weren't will go back to their old ways. I doubt the additional training hours will go away. Going to be a bumpy ride for sure!Comment

Yes so true on all points.I think he knows all or parts of SB2 will be struck down in time and I don't think he really cares. He got lots of PR out of it. Lots of time and money will be spent fighting it which is another win. It's a win all the way around for him even if and when he loses.

The number is rapidly growing.
LASD HAS 8,000 applicants, LAPD last count had over 4,0000 applicants.
I?ve been calling IA?s and Assembly and Senate members asking them to relieve the burden on LE to issue permits and since the all have to go through the DOJ, the DOJ should issue within 30 days, just as they do with purchases, since you can carry wiring a permit.
?We too agree and hold consistent with Heller and McDonald, the Second and Fourteenth Amendments PROTECT an individual to carry a handgun for self defense outside the home?.
My guess is most people carry without a permit and IF I had to fire would say a sold 5% of the population carries without a permit, permit holders in CA today are probably 1% or less and should grow to the 5% within the next few years.
The LASD is taking 18 months from initial contact to issuance, the LAPD now running 12+ months from contact to issuance.
IF CA issued in 30 days without the ?subjective? interview, and psych exams, they could cut down the time.
My permit was issued Aug 1 2023, and my renewal will begin May 1, 2025, only 15 months away.
They also need to increase the valid period from 2 years to 5.
You can always suspend or revoke it if necessary before expiring.
The burden on each IA, and lack of conformity from city to city and county to county that needs to be consolidated to increase issuance.10/15/2022 - Called to get on the list
2/18/2023 - Interview set
4/27/2023 - Class
4/30/2023 - Live Scan
5/9/2023 - Interview
6/26/2023 - Approval Letter
8/1/2023 - IssuedComment

The practice of CCW's will just have to go through the growing pains.
In some states folks can walk into a gun shop, buy a handgun and in 10 minutes walk out with it loaded and shoved down their pants.
In that instance the sheriff has no liability. No one has any liability except the gun owner.
Now, with all these subjective hoops to jump through each and everyone of them is a lawsuit waiting to happen from someone being rejected, to someone slipping through the cracks and going nuts who was approved (sue the psych that gave them a pass) to someone shooting poorly they hurt bystanders and then sue the training vendor that gave them a pass on the range. Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.Comment

Like a gun store employee is really going to know the number of people that admit to carrying illegally. Sounds like another dude just pulling random numbers out of his _ _ _.I?ve made it a point to ask the knowledgeable guys at the gun stores I buy from within their circles what percentage of people that carry actually have a ccw permit. I was getting between 30 and 50 percent are permitted. I was surprised at the low number.
I?m guessing since it?s generally a misdemeanor under most circumstances and if you need to defend yourself with your firearm you?re going before the same judge and jury, maybe permitting doesn?t really buy you a lot of advantages past the necessary training for new shooters.
With the SB2 on the horizon you?re just so limited.sigpic

It won't be Saint Benitez (at least for the PI), it will be Judge Cormac Carney and he has a good record on 2nd amendment. I will be truly surprised if he doesn't issue an injunction on most of the sensitive places (Hearing Dec. 20).Comment

Good insights. CRPA should coordinate an electronic letter writing campaign. The number is rapidly growing.
