    Hearst Castle

Planning on taking a trip there. Searched and couldn't find info regarding wanding or metal detectors. Anyone been there lately? I understand that you you take a bus from the visitor center. Don't want to have any issues.

    Thanks.

I haven't been there in years but there were no metal detectors of any kind being used when I went.
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I wasn't sure so I left my gun in the car.. but there was nothing in terms of sercurity. We went just about 9 months ago.

However, it is a State Park I think.. so there might be rules.

Expect TSA style patdowns and cavity searches. Maybe not though, never been there.

No metal detectors, I went 2 months ago. Though they did change their bus company and I am not kidding when I say we almost died on the way down!

The bus driver was going about 45mph down the steep winding road, she couldn't get the defroster to work, my wife and I were sitting directly behind the driver and we had to open the window it was so humid in the bus. She isn't braking at ALL!! Maybe a few times once she is already into the apex of the turn. As we are approaching a very sharp turn with 75-100ft drop off (while she is still driving way to fast) she turns off the calming Alex Trebek and shouts "EVERYBODY LEAN LEFT" I look out the front door and see no pavement! The bus, up to the front axle is hanging over the cliff-side. Every passenger literally stood up and jumped left to shift the weight away from the cliff.

Also, suggest the tour of the bedrooms, not the main castle its much, much better.

I want to go back, but may be a bit traumatized still.

I haven't been in a couple years, but I don't even remember any metal detectors. It's beautiful. While I understand wanting to carry in a place that could be a target due to the amount of people there, I wouldn't let it keep me from going.

I love that place. I once got a behind-the-scenes tour from a family member of a friend. It was a day the park was closed & employees were able to invite a few people for private tours. I got to swim in the both pools, tour Hearst's private office, the "honeymoon suite", & go out on the balcony (no guardrails btw) outside Hearst's office. We could touch items, thumb through a few of the books off the shelf in the library, go off the tour rugs... it was amazing!

To me, big tourist parking lots are a prime place to have your car searched by crooks.

I would leave nothing of value in the car when you are on a 3 hour tour
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                          (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Man, that would suck after taking that long bus ride up to the castle only to find out that they did not allow folks with a concealed gun.
                            Then what?

I’ve been several times, no metal detectors that I’ve ever seen. Not sure if they still do this, but they used to have special nighttime tours around Christmas that would include people dressed up in period clothing discussing the “events of the day”. As you toured you could hear them discussing the war etc. it wasn’t interactive but it added a cool dimension to the tour.
