County with Biggest Decrease in CCW Wait Times in 2018?

Is it Riverside County which went from 2 year wait times to 2-3 month wait times over the course of this year?

Orange County went from 6 months to 1-2 months after going online is in second place?

Does Riverside win the 2018 CCW award?

Orange County is truly the model for the state of what every county should be as far as CCW issuance is concerned. We have our new sheriff to thank for that. Don Barnes is going to be great!

I think Orange County has done great things in terms of CCW. However, they still don't have an effective "shall issue" policy. There are several counties that do such as Fresno and Sacramento that are also large counties and have low wait times...Orange County also does residence checks, requires an interview, etc. Like I said, I believe they have done great in transforming other counties to issue CCW's. However, I would not go as far as saying they are a model.

That said, I have heard Barnes is going to be even better (like you said).

You truly have no clue as to what you are saying. Firstly, OCSD no longer does residency checks unless they think the applicant may not live where they stated that they do. Secondly, there is no such thing as shall issue in California. State law is that we are a may issue state. IA's may decide to accept whatever they want as good cause, however, there is truly no such thing as shall issue in California. Before making statements you should no what the h@#$ you are talking about!

Did you see the word "effectively" before the words "shall issue?" There are several counties that issue for the mere reason of writing the words "self-defense" on the application. That is what is meant by EFFECTIVELY "shall issue."

I do not live in Orange County and heard about the residence checks here on Calguns. If they have stopped doing them, that is great news! I will gladly admit that I am wrong on this particular part.

However, the original point still stands. Orange County is good and has led other counties in southern California. However, there are still counties that are better than Orange County such as Fresno and Sacramento. Both of those counties issue fairly quickly and have EFFECTIVELY "shall issue" policies.

I used Fresno and Sacramento as they are larger counties like Orange County. If we start factoring in small counties, there are several that are better. Madera and Mariposa Counties both offer the initial training for free! Both are EFFECTIVELY "shall issue," and both issue very quickly.

I would like to point out that when it comes to California law, I probably no (sic) more than the average bear.

Residence checks and live interviews are only done during the initial app for a ccw. Renewals are easy peasy online.

I know that. It sounds like residence checks are a thing of the past, which is great news. There are still several other counties that are better than OC at issuing and are just as quick. OC is great. They really transformed Socal so that every county is issuing except LA County.

There are counties that do not require an interview, etc. Most of the larger counties (that issue) have moved online now (like OC).

Several counties currently accept self-defense as good cause. I have listed many of them.

There is another thread with the CCW map. Orange County is light green. There are several counties that are dark green. That isn't a perfect map. For instance, Monterey County is dark green, but has several extra requirements. I would take Orange County (light green) over Monterey County (dark green).

Still, there are other counties (like Sacramento and Fresno) that are dark green, issue quickly, and are large counties like Orange.

Orange County has done great things in transforming other counties in southern California. They can still get better.
