Any Problems With Using/Displaying CCW at the Range?

Just thought about it, as I’ve done it at the indoor range I frequent.....

Any issues with taking out your carry weapon from it’s holster at the shooting table.....practicing.....and then reholstering at the end? Does anyone have issues with that? Any neighboring shooters ever give you raised eyebrows? Range officers ever scold on this practice? Or perfectly fine?

I often use a “Sticky” type holster and have to take the actual holster out first, put the firearm in, then stuff it back at 4 o’clock......does that appear sketchy to the general public?

Just looking for guidance.....

Guess it depends on your range. At mine, I do it all the time, dont even think twice about it.

Call and ask them. Most outdoor ranges I know of are cold ranges. All the indoor ranges, so far I have used, are okay with pulling the gun once and putting it back once at the end.

The indoor I frequent just says be smart about unholstering and put the gun on the bench. Do your thing and reholster when done.

The only thing most ranges don't want, is "holster draw" shooting.

Concealed means concealed. You are not CCWing when exposed.

If I am going to be shooting my carry gun at the range I don't holster or conceal it. I bring it in my range bag and proceed from there. It isn't anybodies business that I am a CCW holder and I don't want them to know.

The indoor pistol range I use does not allow any holstered weapons.

Another range, where I did my Utah CCW qualifying, had us drawing from the concealed holster and doing Mozambiques on multiple targets!

So, it really does depend on the range.

My local range allows for holster draws. They say it's only for CCW holders, but I've only had them ask for my permit once and that's because the only gun I brought was in my pants (they ask to inspect firearms when you arrive, I had nothing to inspect so fairly obvious set of circumstances).

I regularly practice draws from concealment as I don't know how else I'd stay proficient. Dry fire maybe but wouldn't be the same.

I do not advertise my CCW to anyone. Not even at some local range.

Other then dry fire drills if I want to practice hook and draw I do so at specific training settings, not at the local range in front of strangers.

every controlled range that i have used.......it is posted at the entrance......no loaded firearms beyond this point. that is a common range rule, and common sense........

Yep and as I walk in the door I give the RO a wink and hold up 4 fingers so he knows I'm CCW at 4:00.

Not talking about holster draw.....just taking it out and putting it on the table for shooting practice....then reholstering at the end.

I think this is the practical way to go. I feel weird reholstering a CCW at the indoor range, even while trying to be discreet

What's stopping you from introducing yourself to the Rangemaster and chatting him up about it? Good info here, but know none of it is your range's deal until you chat with them. G/L.

Our range is un-moderated for the most part. When nobody on the same lanes the first thing I always do is take whatever CCW piece I am carrying and empty the magazine. I like to know and be reassured that simply drawing my weapon and pulling the trigger is going to do the trick.
