I do believe I know about where he lives.

His sign is on the north side of Sebastopol headed up the hill before pacific market. And then headed home going east on 12 right there at the intersection of llano rd. Is Engrams very large and impressive signs

    Made me smile

I requested a yard sign but hopefully it's not as big as the ones I'm seeing as my street doesn't get the traffic to justify it.

The only other one I have seen other then Engram is Tenenbaum and I have only seen one and that is in Sebastopol

    Engram for Sheriff

I attended a meet and greet at G4 firearms a while back and spoke with Engram.

His position is to keep the CCW policy exactly as it is. I asked about modifications and he's not interested in budging on that either.

Looks like Tenenbaum will make us a red county and Edmunds will make us yellow if we're lucky.

The only one I know of that's left is Kevin Burke, but he's endorsed by the Democratic Party so I wouldn't get my hopes up.

EDIT: Just read that Burke dropped out already. Not sure if it's good news. I think the thinner we can spread the anti gun vote the better Engram's chances.

The bolded by Edmunds cannot be left unchallenged. It simply makes no sense. It’s internally contradictory. If Essick has been issuing CCWs liberally to ordinary folk that means he is NOT using a “pay to play” process. It means he is issuing without demanding “political favors” in return. Just look to indicted Sheriff Smith in Santa Clara Co to see how corruption works. She didn’t even process apps from “normal” people but had a virtual concierge service for VIP applicants. CCWs for political favors only works with a restrictive GC policy, the very thing Edmunds wants to reimplement.

At best Edmunds will go to Yellow….

Go through all of the 240+ CCW incidents linked in my signature line and see how many could articulate an “actual necessity” to carry on the day of their incident. None, IIRC.

Imagine if you needed a permit from the fire department to own a fire extinguisher and the Fire Chief said he’d only issue a permit if you could prove you needed one, that just being law abiding and wanting to have one to be safe wasn’t enough….

No “case-by-case” BS: if you’re a law abiding adult who can own a firearm (GMC), “self defense” should be enough GC to get issued a CCW. That’s the way it is in Mendocino Co. and many others.

Got this email from Tennenbaum at around 12:30 this morning

    Hello Reno,

Thank you for reaching out to me regarding my policies as Sonoma County Sheriff regarding concealed weapons permits. I have taken the liberty of copying your questions and will attach my answers to them.

What will your standard of “good cause” be?

I don't have a "standard" of "good cause." I believe that every application for a concealed weapon permit should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. There are too many scenarios, and differing factors within those scenarios, to have a blanket standard for good cause.

Will all current CCW permits be renewed?

No. There will be no automatic renewals of CCW permits. As with my answer to your first question, each case and existing permit will be reviewed and evaluated on the individual merits of the need to carry a concealed weapon. If circumstances with the permit holder have changed during the duration of their permit prior to renewal, those changes will be factored in to renewal.

Will additional restrictions be added to permit holders?

I don't have any intention of placing additional restrictions on permit holders, unless I found some compelling reason to do so, or, as stated, circumstances change.

CCW permits are currently a large piece of paper. Will you look to implement something better like many other counties?

This is an interesting question and something that I wasn't aware of. I think that it would make sense to have two forms for CCWs, one legal sized certificate and one I.D. style plastic or laminated card that fits into a wallet.

I want to leave you with a parting thought. I know that you are a strong Second Amendment advocate and I respect you for that. I also realize that some people have legitimate needs to carry a weapon, and I respect and honor that. Personally, even though I can legally carry a concealed weapon, I choose not to. The same holds true for when I was living in San Francisco and still employed as a police officer: I didn't carry a concealed weapon when I was off duty. I never feared for my safety while going about my business, in spite of my 32 years as a police officer, and in spite of working in some very dangerous neighborhoods. Yet I understand that some people have a heightened sense of fear or just want the security that they get from having a concealed weapon. I am also keenly aware of the liability of carrying a concealed weapon, or even owning a weapon. Guns can certainly be an asset when trouble comes calling, but too often they are misused or allowed to fall into the wrong hands.

Again, I appreciate you reaching out to me and I look forward to talking to you again.

    Thanks, that helps a lot.

Someone also posted that letters must be half a page in length, must include contact information, date and a wet signature. Is that really correct?

Did it have to be typed? I have one guy willing to write me one but he doesn't have a computer or printer.

EDIT: It doesn't have to be typed

    GMC Letters?

At which point do they ask for the letters on good moral character? I did the live scan a few weeks ago.
