Just adding to what the others have said to try to reassure you...

They received my application in early June. I took my Live Scan somewhere around July and had completely forgotten about the process because other Calgunners have moved on in the process -- and received their CCWs. I'm mentioning this to let you know that there doesn't seem to be a definite course of movement. I can understand the overwhelming amount of paperwork Debbie must have since I'm a secretary by trade too.

In fact, I just got my call to proceed onto training just last week. We can all see that it's almost the end of December 2011.

Please don't get frustrated. There's just a lot of us waiting to get through

thanks for all the info everyone. I went ahead and gave Debbie a call today just to check in. she pulled my file and and assured me everything was ok but that I was just in in the background stage of the process still. she says they are absolutely overwhelmed with apps right now and even commented that some other county's the wait was up to a year. not sure where that might be. anyways, back to the waiting game. I think I'll do the same and go take my training soon and try to offset the next stage of waiting a bit.

I'd also like to add that the people who do backgrounds are backlogged too. When I had to renew my Notary commission, my Live Scan was done in early Feb, but I didn't know that it had cleared because the results didn't come back until about two months later.

All of these things, including furlough days, add to the wait. Just saying...

I understand the frustration, I was on the same boat a few months back. Glad to note that posts don't express anger, which should be the case because in the total scheme of things we are very fortunate in Solano County. I just came back from L.A. where relatives, especially one who is a 20+ years non-sworn employee of LAPD, couldn't believe I have an LTC.

I figure with things being as crazy as they are these days, people are requiring background checks for every little thing. I've done live scans and backgrounds in the past that took two weeks, but that was before Homeland Security, TSA, and all of these other agencies got into the business of making life complicated. I hope that Debbie knows that we appreciate the hard work she's doing. We're providing great job security if nothing else...

            I don't think it's nice,...you laughing.
You see, my mule don't like people laughing.
He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him.
Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to,
I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I wonder if there would be a way for C3 or other Calguns organization to talk to Solano SO about volunteering to help? If there are simple/clerical type things that are taking forever and we had a pool of volunteers that could be screened/checked/whatever... then we could help them process apps faster. I'm not even sure if it's feasible but I just had the thought.

From my understanding of any type of volunteer work with LE, civilians will still need to have a background check done. I'm not sure if it would be a matter of ethics for a Calgunner to be viewing the confidential information of other applicants. Not to be the fly in the ointment, but being in a similar line of work, signing a confidentiality waiver isn't enough to allow an "outsider" to handle sensitive materials like CCW applications.

Part of the issue is that the Sheriff reviews each application at every step. That being said the applications speed is related to how much time he has.

Both good points... I just thought I'd bounce an idea out to see what y'all thought.

I was just discussing this idea with another Callgunner a few days ago on a nacho run. My plan is to make contact after the New Year.

An update: my wife finally got her application filled out and mailed in yesterday. I hope that the Sheriff doesn't have any vacation planned for the first quarter so he can review the backlog of apps and get things running smoothly again.

Got the call... time shoot some targets....and coincidentally and I tell the truth when I say this I was watching this vid off Yahoo...at the same time with the wife. If there is such a thing as 'gun gods' or 'gun karma' today was the day for me and the family. Hopefully I never have to draw it, but I'd rather be caught with than without given all that I seen these past few years.
