Just out of curiosity, how detailed did you get? Two paragraphs sounds like a lot, whereas all I can think of is good cause and the fact that I'm military and obviously a "big target" based on current events =)

When I did the interview I was informed that Military service was not able to be used due to an agreement/memo between the Travis Wing Commander and the Sheriff. Since there is a new CC at Travis I'm not sure if that Memo is still good.

        EDIT: Found the memo.

That was quick two months. Received a letter to proceed to training.

            Timeline

5/19 dropped off application and interview
            5/29 received approval letter
            6/4 live scan complete

            seems to moving right along

as far as good cause, When I took the class on how to prepare for the application, He stated to give two paragraphs, each with specific situations you have been in where you were in fear for your life that you feel you should have been safer with a concealed carry weapon. Even if you desire it for your job, have other reasons because if you only put down for your job and you change jobs, you will may lose your permit.

I'm military too, and mentioned it, but only to show responsibility and training. If you want, PM me and I'll send you my GC statement. Some of it will obviously be only applicable to me, but it'll give you an idea.

Same timeline as you down to the dates. I guess he was serious when he said they were trying to speed things up. I was figuring a 6/7 month process but I'm thinking that if DOJ is still at 2 months this may be a 3/4 month process now.

How is the doj background different from the livescan or are they one in the same?

I've been told that sheriff will contact any counties you've lived in and ask for any info on you. If the county takes a while to respond, you have to wait for your piece of paper.

I heard that in the application class. During the interview, he only asked about the addresses for the last 5 years so I am not sure how they find out about any other counties you might have lived in?? I am sure they can find out anything if they really want to.

Interesting... So if I've lived in Solano county for the last ten years, and am applying for a Solano county CCW, does that mean the sheriff's office spends 2-4 months talking to itself before issuing the Livescan clearance? Seems if there's no other counties involved the process could be handled in-house after the Livescan meeting and some sort of attachment sent to DOJ with the Livescan request with a "preclearance" of sorts.

If you've lived in a city or cities within Solano County, the sheriff will still need to get a report from the PD where you've lived. Sometimes it's fast. Most of the time it isn't, especially from a city with short handed staff in the Dept.

Oh wow, that's disappointing and I'm surprised I've never heard about it. I appreciate the info though! Do you mind if I ask where you found the memo? Feel free to PM me, I'm very curious and intend to do some research and see if our new CC has updated the memo or not.

Its on the Travis sharepoint under 60th Air Mobility Wing then Exe supt and on the left side has Base Policy Letters under "Documents"
If you are doing research I would try the number for the POC first.

I'm curious if it made it to 31-1.

Anyone ever use Baptist Security Training for your range qualification?

How was the process with him?

                                Thanks
