Use your Vehicle Reg if it is still shows SC address.
Call one of the utilities and ask to add your name to the bill.
PG&E bill may be printed out online.
Add a note to your application for the deputy handling the apps to read. He has his hands full, but he is reasonable.
There is no up front charge when applying; fill it out and deliver it.
To find all the forms you need; go to the Administration page of SCCSO and scroll to the bottom where all the forms you need are available for download.
If you use Facebook, go to the Concealed Carry in Santa Cruz page.Last edited by otteray; 01-13-2023, 7:42 PM.sigpic

Hey folks, putting together my application for Santa Cruz county and had three questions I figured I'd run by here before I tried the sheriff's office. Apologies if these have already been answered elsewhere. Thanks in advance!
Proof of residency - the initial application phase one lists a) California Driver's License or active military ID + original state ID, b) county certified birth certificate or naturalization papers, and c) current utility bill. Do I just need one of these, a combination, or all three?
[For context, I have a California (different county) driver's license, California (different county) birth certificate, and no utility bills under my name, but I can update the driver's license to Santa Cruz and add my name to utility bills as needed. I would be rather surprised if they required a Santa Cruz county certified birth certificate for every applicant...]
Character references - any advice re: selection? I was thinking one friend who's known me from childhood, one friend I've met as an adult, and one former coworker.
Proof of ownership and registration - is an itemized receipt enough, or is there a specific form they're looking for?Comment

Character references doesn't matter who they are as long as they aren't a relative. The letter has to include contact information, length of relationship and acknowledge that you are applying for CCW.
Proof of ownership needs to be DROS or DOJ printout.
Good luck! The process was easy and the deputy very friendly and responsive. If you don't have a criminal record you will be issued. Mine took 45 days.

One last question - does the driver's license address also need to be a Santa Cruz address/match with my utility bill? Guessing the answer is yes but just wanted to check.Comment

Hi All,
I am just starting the process now. For the initial application packet submission, do I submit all this (as per the SC Sheriff?s process)?:

a. California Driver?s License OR current active military ID and original state ID
b. County certified birth certificate or naturalization papers/certificate
c. Current utility bill in your name with service address (must be gas, water electric
or trash)
2. Complete Standard Application for License to Carry a Concealed Weapon (Cal DOJ form
BOF4012). Initial every page of the document.
3. Three signed letters of character reference from individuals other than relatives.
4. Proof of ownership and registration of each weapon to license for concealment.
5. Complete Pre-Background Interview Form
6. Complete Employment and Residence History Form
7. Check payable to the County of Santa Cruz in the amount of $94.97*

I see some of you do the Live Scan after being asked to. Can I do this before being asked?
Can I do the training before phase 2?
Is the training requirement now 16 hours , instead of 8 hours, as per new SB2 requirements?Comment

Hi everyone! We just wanted to introduce ourselves to your county - our company is now a certified CCW training vendor for Santa Cruz County. We are one of the only vendors in the bay area that has the lecture portion of the training completely online, requiring only four hours in person on the range (we made it as easy and convenient as we could for you). We currently shoot at the Los Altos Rod and Gun Club in Los Gatos (off Skyline). You can check out our CCW course at https://sabertactics.com/ccw_class. Hope to see you guys on the range!Comment
