Will Laurie attend, say a few words?

Well it looks like the first one from august is there, so it may just need to update still.

Captain James Jensen, who was previously indicted in August, was also hit with a new indictment.

Whomever takes over from Smith is going to be under a microscope on how they "fix" the broken system. I can even see a consent decree being put in place on how the permit process would happen with an appeal process if turned down.

Who's going to be the new Sheriff?

This action has its own legs. The final analysis comes down to the Sheriff signing the permits in an environment where she never signed permits.

    Why'd she do that?

She's on the gallows; it doesn't matter who pulls the lever to drop her.

    She's going to drop.

Law enforcement is a para-military hierarchy. When those above drop, those below move up (even in an interim standing). It's organizational succession planning. The leader drops, but the fight goes on.

Once indicted and convicted, the Board of Supervisors can step in as they did in Orange County.

This is like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

(Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

Hmm - good question. I assume the County Board of Supervisors could put Smith on leave.
There are still some undersheriffs in the ranks in Ken Binder, Mike Doty and Tim Davis. I'd assume one of them would take command. But no one who's moved that high up in Smith's chain of command is going to break with her policies

The escape routes are slowly closing off.
I don't think she's gonna wiggle out of this one.

They also dropped an additional indictment on Captain James Jensen.

Now, they've got the screws on the two top players below the Sheriff.

    Let the bargaining begin.
