Before I was approved, on the last of the 2 follow up call, he asked where I worked, was I allowed to carry at work, etc... I was unemployed at the time and told him so, and it appeared that I had thrown him a loop being unemployed. He seemed like he was unsure how to proceed. Then he went on for 20 minutes about my finances.

I just had my interview today.

I am a permanent resident (green card) and not a citizen. Investigator did not know if I am eligible and will need to find out, so my application will probably take longer than the already painstakingly long wait.

I can't find anything under law that says that US citizenship is a requirement for CCW.

Fellas, I have my appointment next month and I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row. The cover letter so graciously provided by this very website says to bring two checks. One made out for $19 and one for $120. On the Sheriff's information packet it says $19 and $28? Nevermind... I'm overthinking this. I'll make the check out when I get there!

On the day of interview, you will need one check for $19 (20% of application fee), another check for $128 for live scan fingerprinting. When approved, you will pay the remaining 80% of the application fee, which is $76. All payable to San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office.

Good to hear. Interesting about the warning on the back I know that wasn't there three months ago. I'm on day 150 already had my training just waiting on a call.

I decided to carry a different gun than what I initially trained with sp I am going to qualify saturday with it

I picked my permit up today. No restrictions.
I was asked if I would be carrying at work. I said no its against the policy and I would be fired, no exceptions. That was it. I think if you come across like you are not sure what your company policy is you will have to provide some documentation with a correct answer. I don't think a I don't know is going to fly. If you waiting for that call I would research it to prevent then from having to call you back.

3/24/14. I called for the appointment.
4/23/14. Had my appointment at 2:00pm.
9/9/14. Had my phone interview last week.
9/16/2014 APPROVED.
148 days total for approval.
10/6/14 picked up permit after 16hr CCW course.

It does have in red writing on the back.
If the holder is arrested for
criminal misconduct, this
license is to be immediately
returned to the San Joaquin
County Sheriff's Office.

Good luck guys. Be patient. They were training a women today while doing mine so maybe things will pick up. That poor Melanie women. While I was there the phone kept ringing. I bet she couldn't get anything done. It was none stop folks calling to get an update, lol.

Both of these are excellent points. Just because something is against company policy doesn't make it illegal. What is the sheriff's legitimate interest in a particular CCW permit holder's employer's policy on firearms?

It is interesting because they seem to be inconsistent on this. They asked me if it was against the policy at my workplace. I told them that I had never seen it in writing but given the nature of where I work I am sure that it is. I said that I would have to ask administration which I do not want to do so I just will not carry at work. He said ok and I really expected to have a restriction on mine but I do not. My job is one where I believe that there should be armed people and that it would benefit the safety of many people who are currently soft targets. That being said, unless it was an official program where I had LEO type protections, I do not want the liability and responsibility of carrying on the job as an individual CCW holder due to the nature of the setting. That being said, I do appreciate that I have the power to make that decision, whether I want to risk getting fired and having my CCW revoked vs. going unprotected. I have chosen to disarm at work but at least that is my choice.
