Current wait after turning in paperwork, interview, and DOJ fingerprinting is 8 to 10 months.
A separate letter for good cause is not needed in SJ... just write it on the provided space on page ten of the DOJ application. That's all I did and it was perfectly fine.
Hint: If your appointment is the first (1pm) after lunch, show up 30 minutes early and you will most likely be out by 1:30.
Go only to the sheriff office web site to get your proper paperwork and follow the instructions on the sheriff's application in filling it and the DOJ papers out. Any other instructions from other places will just be confusing and it's not that complicated. http://www.sjgov.org/sheriff/ccw.html
As I understood, they are only doing the interviews on Mondays and currently they are doing around 15 apps each week.
You can add or change your 3 weapons carry list at any time during the waiting period for approval. Just go down to the office to change them. After approval and the ccw is issued it's ten bucks (plus a training fee).Last edited by scadvice; 11-02-2015, 3:29 PM.Leave a comment:

Tracy's new police chief is the outgoing San Jose police chief Larry Esquivel.
From the San Jose Police website:
"CCW Procedures - License to Carry a Concealed Weapon
(Updated March 19, 2014)
Members of the public wishing to obtain a CCW license under the standards articulated by the Ninth Circuit should be aware that the decision has not yet become final. Federal court rules prescribe a period of time which must elapse before the case is remanded to the District Court for further proceedings. All applications will continue to be received based on the current “good cause” standard. Applicants will be contacted by a member of the San Jose Police Department Permits Unit with instructions on how to move forward with the process."
I guess this is his position on CCW.Leave a comment:

Picked up my CCW today, applied 12/1/14. Told me to apply for the renewal 4months in advance (will do it 6 month in advance). No interview, no questions, no nada... Must admit that I really feel sorry for the individuals that have had their Second Amendment rights denied in Santa Clara, Alameda, and Contra Costa Counties. It's just not right, particularly considering the spike in violent crime. An individual was just shot to death 2 blocks from my office in downtown Livermore over the weekend.Leave a comment:
