If you are really worried about it just carry a 10 round mag and a high capacity mag for back up. God forbid if you are in a life threatening situation you need more than 10 rounds you going to worry about grabbing that legally bought high capacity back up magazine? Let's hope that weapon with what ever size magazine never comes out your holster.

Read through the departments rules for CCW. Do you see magazine capacity limits? Also, is there a law that would prevent you from using a legally possessed standard or high capacity magazine in your gun? The answer is no unless you have a fixed mag riffle or pistol which would not be on your permit anyways.

Ok just a update about my 642 for anyone who cares. I contacted Chuck Fields of NFI, he does a CCW class in Stockton once a month & probably the class I will take so he will be the instructor looking over my firearms & this is the response I got back from him
"No, as long as the firearm is operating smoothly and properly removing the lock should not be an issue and that will not cause it to not pass inspection .

Looks like I'm good to go as far as my internal lock being removed. Now to wait for my appointment in the beginning of next month. I will update then.

If you need to take the initial or renewal CCW course I highly recommend Valley Defensive Consultant!! Vince is incredible, retired law enforcement and day 2 you bring over 200 rounds and shoot all day long performing drills and exercises. Best class you can take! No need to shop around these guys are the best!

They also teach defensive 1 and 2 class, shotgun, carbine classes as well.

I can't imagine that it would be a problem. You would never carry the gun locked. And by removing the internal lock, you simply ensured that it would not unintentionally lock up when you really needed it. But to be sure, check with your selected trainer. They're the ones who will inspect the guns prior to certifying them.

For what it's worth, I had a no-lock 642 on my permit for awhile. The issue of having no internal lock never came up.

For my initial CCW application I had to be interviewed by the then Sheriff Moore because of my arrest(s) record from 40+ years ago. Just had my second renewal which wasn't approved until the present one had expired. Thought maybe another interview was going to happen but the Sheriff was just a little behind since just taking over recently.

I just picked up mine this week. I called the week before and they set me up with the appointment for this past Wednesday. Just call and make your appointment. If I had called a few days earlier could have gotten it last week.

Thanks for the information. I called and signed up for the April class. Duncan sounds like a very knowledgeable instructor with some real life insight.
