For Renewals, do we need to do Livescan again ? I know we have to do a Renewal Training which is a condensed version of the initial training.

I submitting my Renewal on 04/03/2023 and am still pending for it to be assigned to a Live clerk. I reached out on 06/01/2023 and did speak to someone, and they said that they received a bunch of renewals/applicants causing a delay.

Unfortunately my permit expires tomorrow so I will be SOL. But I am trying to figure out what else I can get done in the meantime.

As far as I know, your proof of residency is based on 2 utility bills you provide. If all the bills are in your name, then she can submit those along with your marriage certificate.

I submitted 2 utility bills under my name and was not asked for any additional proof of residency.

Depends on the trainer, ask them how long their training certificate is valid for because they vary. Greg Block?s training/qualification certificates are valid for 6 months.

Yes, a firearm can be added or removed any time before the permit is issued. To add a firearm, qualification certificate will need to be provided.

I doubt OCSD would let you list it unless it?s registered as semi-auto.

Many off-roster were purchased via SSE exemption, and original owners have been able to use those handguns on their permit despite the registered caliber (25ACP via SSE conversion barrel) is different than what is listed on the application and qualification certificate (9mm, 40SW, 45ACP, etc etc). As a result, it seems OC is rather lenient regarding the details as long as the handgun is registered to you.

    For example:
Off-roster handgun purchased via SSE and registered as 25ACP.

Application SSE handgun listed as 40SW.
Qualification Cert. SSE Handgun listed as 40SW
    Permit approved.

Renewal application same SSE handgun listed a 9mm, converted with OEM complete slide and OEM magazines.
Qualification Cert. same SSE Handgun listed as 9mm.
    Permit approved.

The above scenario has happened on my permit, so OCSD appears to be lenient regarding the details and only cares that the handgun is registered to you. At least, that is the impression that I got.

I perused this thread and there is a lot. Just wondering if anyone has any tips on how I may get started with the OC CCW. We will be heading down end of month in hopes of finding a place to rent and then will want to start the process, again, down there. FYI, its been challenging for us in SF. Snails pace, but they just opened up to CCW last year, so maybe they are still finding their protocols. How has it been in OC Thanks in in advance.
If you move to Irvine, you will have to withdraw your SF CCW, since you will no longer be a resident of SF. The resident is whomever rents the property from you. You cannot apply with OCSD until you actually move to Irvine and whem you do, I believe the application asks about other applications. If it does, you must mention that you were in the midst of applying with SFPD, when you moved and withdrew.

The permit is issued (typically) by the sheriffs department of the county you reside in, but is valid statewide. AFAIK, CA doesn't have local restrictions, though the policies between sheriffs departments can differ; IE Number of handguns allowed on permit, etc.

If you change your drivers license to the Irvine address, you will have to abandon the SF permit, and apply with OC. OC is much more open compared to many other counties, one example being that there is no limit to the number of handguns you can add to your permit (you still need to qualify with each, so it can get expensive as most trainers charge for each additional handgun after the first 3 or so, and then the ammo costs) Not sure what the current turnaround is right now, but right after NYSRPA v. Bruen was decided, the main bottleneck is the live scan turnaround. Nevertheless, it should be much quicker and easier to get than a SF permit, and it good all throughout the state.
