I have renewed a few times before, but this was the first renewal post-Bruen decision and the 2024 SB2 requirements. I probably would have received my license a little sooner (few days earlier possibly), but a couple things happened - I skipped the references section at first and forgot to come back and fill out in renewal app before I submitted. Submitted the references 2 weeks later to be "proactive" so CCW Unit would not have to remind me later, but lol they notified me for something else below.

    11/26 Completed renewal training course.
    1/8 Renewal App Submitted
1/24 Submitted character references through Permitium.
3/19 Notified via email to submit different residence document. Submitted within minutes of receipt.
3/24 Received email and automated text for approval. Was given instructions to email and wait or try to call in during business hours if you can get through. Sent email to "get into queue for payment".
3/26 Called into office and paid over phone. Was told it would be 3-5 business days for delivery of license.
    3/29 Received license in mail.
Are they actually calling the character references? I figured renewals wouldn't need to deal with that crap since you've already been a clearly safe carrying permit holder for at least 2 years. I just wanna know when the time comes if I should tell those people to expect a call. Also what happens if your references don't answer? Haha it's so stupid

Along with 9Cal_OC's comment, SB 2 added the need to have the license on you when carrying:
26200. (a) While carrying a firearm as authorized by a license issued pursuant to this chapter, a licensee shall not do any of the following:
    []
    (7) Fail to carry the license on their person

No. Since your current permit doesn?t have it listed, you have to wait until you physically have the new one to start carrying it.

Just an update on adding a firearm to my existing permit:
    1/29/24 - Application turned in
3/20/24 - Received email and text informing me it has been processed

I usually call them instead of waiting for them to call me for payment. I hope to have the amended permit in my hand within a week. It was about a 2 month wait for me.

One major pitfall I was told to be aware of is that when adding that new firearm, you need to re-enter every single gun and serial number on your current permit as well as the new one. If you just give them the one gun, they make take everything else you previously qualified with off your permit.
Cool, thank you brother. I was advised by my school about the listing of all firearms.

Also, do I need to give references and if so will they be calling all of them?

I wish they had a separate app for adding a gun, seems silly to have to fill out everything again when I've already got a permit.

    Thanks for any info.

The last time I added a firearm to my CCW was in 2018. At that time, we just had to complete a short correction form. Of course, proof of proficiency with that firearm was required.

    Yes

    Yes.

What's the practical value of removing the sold gun from CCW? If the gun is used in a crime, the last record of sale is the proof of the ownership transfer. CCW is irrelevant.

I did the process for an amendment June 24th to drop that gun and add another. But I have a feeling it will take months. My question is: does the gun need to be off the permit to sell it?
