You are inquiring about Humboldt County? Have you been fingerprinted/ live scanned? Was your interview in person, or over the phone? Have you done the 8 hours of training for new applicants, and qualified with your listed weapons at the range?

With the Corona Virus and the HCSO declared that the CCW License processing as non-essential services until recently things are in flux right now, as far as the HCSO processing time for CCW Licenses both new and renewals.

Yet based on years past, and this old HCSO info card from 2005 - they have up to 90 days to approve or deny your application.

I am always carrying valuable property. My life, my liberty, my personal property, and my freedom are carried everywhere I go.

What is more valuable than your own life?

That should be more than sufficient.

Ya humboldt county. I took the class, qualified, applied and scheduled an interview online. I think there was a mistake and I shouldn’t have been able to register for an apt online, so my slot was double booked but they took me anyway. I did the livescan and had the in person interview. The deputy said id receive an email when it was processed. Just don’t know how long that usually takes.

Anyway, looks like they are processing applications and holding interviews again.

        Thanks!

Do you have to sit through classes again for renewal? Like the ones required for the new permit before? Or do you just pay the certified instructor to sign off on your target and verify serial numbers etc? Does anyone know if WildWest will be opening back up?

Wild west is closed for good. Ballistic Precision (RMI Outdoors) and Pacific Outfitters have the CCW classes. Renewal should be a "quick" refresher, range, paperwork and wait around for the call to get your new card at the Sheriff's office. Double check on the Sheriff's website how their going about things since the change in Covid tier levels.

Wild West Shootery in Eureka on 5th street at the "S" curve is no more...

Look at the HCSO web page about CCW to see what trainers are qualified for your range time and paperwork. Below is the HCSO link, for the list of approved trainers in Humboldt County.

The list of approved trainers has shrunk, since I did my latest (tenth renewal) HCSO CCW License renewal submission online in early March 2020, and received my current CCW license in May 2020 due to COVID delays.

There are 3 different types of concealed weapons permit. There is renewals, modifications, and new permit.

For your HCSO CCW renewal, you only need to fire 25 rounds of ammunition per listed firearm, and only 4 hours of training are required.

That is as compared to 50 rounds per listed firearm, and 8 hours of instruction for your initial CCW License.

Plus as you may already know submitting applications, attached required documents, and payments are done online thru the link on the HCSO website.

edited - to add the long running previous thread on Calguns, for Humboldt County CCW Licenses.

A couple recent changes to note:

-The required 4-hour requalification training is really required now. I'm told some instructors were not actually doing it in the past. Plan ahead as it might take a few weeks to get into a class.

-HCSO is holding your renewal until close to your expiration date to make sure you get the most bang for your buck. Turn the application in early, but don't be surprised if you don't get the notification to pick it up until the week before your expiration. I think it's great that they're doing it this way.

-Ballistic Precision behind RMI can help you with qualification for add-ons. You do have to fill out HCSO's online application for add-ons too, and bring the weapon in for inspection when they notify you to pick up your new card.

-One of the great things about Humboldt County continues to be that HCSO is pro-2A. They have some great folks working there who are happy to answer questions and help you through the process changes.

Humboldt County in 2022 is now allowing up to 6 weapons on our CCW Licenses!

In preparing to once again renew my HCSO CCW License, I was talking on the phone today with the HCSO CCW Coordinator to confirm that they are now allowing up to six weapons on their CCW License. Even though they are still listing a limit of three firearms on their FAQ webpage.

So I have to go into the safe and decide which weapons I want to add when I go to qualify at Ballistic Precision in the next couple of weeks. The qualification paperwork is valid for one year, and it is recommended to electronically submit our applications at 60 days before expiration.

Here is the main webpage for the HCSO CCW process.

Well the HCSO has added a couple of new requirements for renewal of our CCW Licenses in 2022.

When electronically submitting our renewal application online no earlier than 30 days of it's expiration, we also have to submit a scanned copy of a recent Passport Photo. In years past the HCSO took our pictures there at the main station in Eureka.

Plus since the HCSO decreed in March 2022 that we are now allowed up to six weapons on our CCW License, so I had to work with the HCSO CCW Coordinator Deputy for an appointment time to bring in my additional newly qualified with and listed weapons in order to have their make, model, and serial numbers verified in person. After the newly listed weapons were verified, I was handed my latest CCW License there and then.

Once again we are issued a laminated card for the HCSO CCW License which is the same size as a California Drivers License...

Decriminalize Nature: Humboldt passed a decriminalization resolution in Arcata awhile ago and is now fighting for Eureka to join them.

Natural medicines are revolutionizing psychiatry especially for treating addictions, treatment resistant depression and PTSD. SpecOp and combat vets have been greatly helped and are supporting both their use and decriminalization.

The more mentally healthy law abiding citizens we have now, the more mentally healthy law abiding CCWers we?ll have in the future (eg, able to pass the psych eval).

Our Mission: Improve human health and well-being by working to decriminalize and expand access to entheogenic plants and fungi through grassroots political and community organizing, education and advocacy.

Well Sheriff Honsal sent out a letter extending our HCSO issued CCW Licenses until Sept 1, 2024 due to AB1.

There are 3 different types of concealed weapons permit. There is renewals, modifications, and new permit.

Also renewals are now 8 hours instead of 4 hours. But 4 of the hours are spent at the range, whereas before we went to the range on our own, instead of under instruction. Due to the new requirements for approved instructors and trainers in AB1 - I was finally able to renew in late July, and the cost of instruction doubled, due to the hours going from 4 to 8 for renewals. New licenses require 16 hours of instruction, and an increase of fees also.

The fees requires to submit the CCW application to the HCSO are about the same as previous years, and I had to go pick up my renewal within 3 weeks. In my GC for my renewal application, I had to supply two HCSO case numbers, for events in the past that involved the use of a firearm/ weapon/ I was the R.P. (Reporting Party - Good Guy)...
