That is outrageous given what states like Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and Utah charge for their licenses that last much longer.

Just had my interview at the Alameda County Sheriff.

The interview is more of a formality since they already have your background via the Livescan process. The interview consisted of asking the questions already answered in the application, such as have you been convicted of etc.

No questions about home, gun storage, gun possessed etc. however I was surprised to be asked why I wanted a permit.

The interviewer mentioned they have a 3000 application backlog and retired people have been brought back to work on processing applications.

It took me 17 months to get the interview stage, and I was told it will now go faster and take about another 2 months to complete the process.

The interviewer mentioned that renewals can either me done by the County or through my local city and the process is much faster for renewals. This is good news I assume and hope it helps others.

The only thing that is worse than an idiot, is someone who argues with one.

The renewal process is fast less than 30 days.

They changed the style of ID it is generic and cheaper than the previous ID card with no hologram. They had to mail most permit printer was on order. After that I received an email that anyone who had CCW issued by ACSO will be allowed to renewal with them which is great if you move around Alameda County you wont have to go to a new city charging 1000+ Got mine Late Feb

I applied with Pleasanton PD 10/26/24 I pick up mine next week 03/18/25... When I went the LT. at the PD said he didn't care what order I did the training or Psych eval. It's been a fairly quick process.

My ACSO CCW renewal went smoothly. There were very limited dates / times to schedule my permit photo and pick up. All things considered, I’m pretty pleased. BTW the Pleasanton PD is treating all renewals as new applications with all the associated costs.

For those interested, the city of Berkeley is planning to begin handling CCW issuance starting July 1, 2025 if I am reading this correctly:

                    https://berkeleyca.gov/sites/default...%20Schedule%20 for%20Carry%20Concealed.pdf

"Therefore, the Police Department seeks Council approval to implement the proposed fee schedule and intends to finalize implementation and begin processing the applications July 1, 2025, in accordance with state law."

In addition, the costs are _significantly_ higher than the ALCO fees being charged.

                    Application fee: $255 vs $95

                    Issuance fee: $325 vs $100

                    Renewal fee: $255 vs $77

                    Duplicate: $55 vs $10

                      These fees are clearly excessive.
