I agree 100%. There are over 100,000 active CCWs in California at this moment. Most of them are in counties that have huge white populations and few minorities.
It's very difficult to get one if you are in a county with a lot of minorities.
The fact that the media loves to talk about issues of equity, but not this issue of equity is sadly laughable.

Next you'll start adding dollar amounts to your time spent here in this thread as costs incurred toward your CCW.

You would/should carry CCW insurance no matter what state/county/jurisdiction you live in, and it's not something they are forcing you to have and that is a personal choice that should not be factored into your estimate.

Again, I'm not saying the associated costs are valid and I do believe it's part of ACSO's plan to deter many from applying, but adding in all the extra fees and whatnot is a bit disingenuous. I had to go to Livescan for work earlier this year and it was $79. . Travel time, ammo needed for class, the range qual, etc. is moot, IMO.

Sounds like you're just trying to pad your earlier estimate to validate your claims.

Regardless, only you can decide if it's worth it to you. In your case it sounds like it might not be given all the extra time, ammo and cost associated with the process. Nothing wrong with that if that's your decision.

Over $1k? How do you figure? Not saying it's cheap, but if you're making a statement you should be factual.

    Application: $195
    Psych Eval: $150
    Livescan: $79
    Qualification Fee: $50
Total: $474 plus whatever the cost is of whatever CCW class you end up taking.

I'm not saying these fees are reasonable because they are not, and it is absurd. I have already received my Utah and Arizona CCW and those were something like $64 for Utah and $60 for Arizona plus the cost of fingerprint cards I had to send in with the applications to each state respectively. The 16-hour CCW class I took to satisfy (actually exceed) the Alameda County requirement also allowed me to apply for non-resident permits in UT and AZ. Around $60 for each state compared to the $474 for California and arduous process is absurd.

Received my email this afternoon to go in and get fingerprinted and proceed to Livescan with a list of all the other requirements and prices moving forward. $150 for the psych evaluation and $50 for the range qualification in addition to the fee for Livescan and the CCW permit fee. This is a racket.

And yes I emailed pics of my safe. I know, but...... They asked specifically about that.

Anybody here considering insurance if you ever got a CCW or even for a home defense situation? Anyone have any experience using any of the companies that are around?
I did some homework. CCWSAFE wins.
