Since the qual is 50 shots did they give you time between distances to reload your mags?

Class is ACSO CCW refresh mostly to ensure all areas are covered. They will go to the 3rd party soon due to the overwhelming numbers. We were told it would be the last class but I saw other dates.

After class you go to the Qual area. It is intense so make sure you hit the range 2 times before the week of the quals to ensure you can be a straight shot center mass. Every point counts!

You have plenty of time 5 From Holster then reload at each distance they wait till everyone is ready. Then they do the next 5 at the ready. They take time to ensure safety is in order if you are unsafe you will be warned and then failed. I went to slow I was told I would not survive so don't over do it or under do it.

Interesting, I submitted on 6/28 and have heard nothing from the Sheriff's office since the 7/22 email "don't call us, we'll call you".

                Marshall Kamena - 925.784.3448
                Security Six - Larry Hamby - 925.525.1382

                Crisis 24 – Devon Taggart -208.890.2850
                2A Firearms Academy - Doug Kevilus – 707.410.0389

Also, I was asked for proof of "firearms registration". Does anyone know what that means? I have the original bill of sale with the 4473 # and the DROS # written on it. Is that what they want?

It seems like the process is picking up speed at this point. I applied the evening of Bruen and completed the interview in mid December, the livescan at the end of December and the psych eval just this week. In the email from Judea she stated that if the safety course is completed "timely" that the range qualification can be done "this month or next".

I know it's been a slow process but they have been responsive and professional every step of the way.

                Thanks in advance!
In that same email that you received with options for training it also explained that you can just send them the make and serial number of your firearm you are choosing for your CCW, and to provide the same info (make and serial number) to your chosen instructor.

Oh shoot! Larry still around?! He used to be my preferred FFL to use and he would do it right at the San Leandro gun range. He does know his stuff and extremely qualified. He's probably been doing it for 40 years or more.

So sorry for your Alameda county folks. I left that hell hole 7 years ago and not once ever regretted it.

I used Joe/ LEO defensive. He was a lieutenant at livermore PD, and 2 of his 3 instructors were active duty SWAT Leo's with local agencies. Livermore rod and gun is really nice this time of year as well.

Went to the range this morning to practice. Was in the indoor range and the furthest distance was 17 yards, so all I did was take 17 yard shots in groups of five shots. These were my first five shots with the Shield. Not bad for only shooting a few rounds through the gun when I bought it just to see if it would cycle a few mags of hollow points, then out it back int he safe until today. For the rest of the session kept most of the shots in the 5 zone, with a few strays that went into the 4 zone. Would be nice to score 90% so I could add a seconds handgun, but I also think I read somewhere that for your initial permit you're still only allowed one handgun?

Is ACSO still using this target, or have they switched to a different target?

Most qualification classes has individual qualifying with > 1 person with multiple firearms. There's time; the bottleneck isnt the instructors

I initially applied the evening of the Bruen decision.

I usually responded promptly to any emails from ACSO and always tried to schedule any appointments (interview, fingerprinting) and submit any requested documents ASAP.

Passed the psych evaluation last week.

Have my qualification test scheduled for next month with ACSO.

FWIW, ACSO did accept my 16-hour, 2-day California CCW class I took last summer, and did not make me re-take any class. I mentioned that at the time I applied and took the class it was still approved by Alameda County, and they only made the decision to change the rules/requirement well after I applied. They did not give any push back on this and accepted it.

This 16-hour course also allowed me to apply for my CCW in a few other states which I have applied to and already received permits from those states several month ago last year.
