My LAPD issued CCW expires in June so I went to the LAPD CCW site a few weeks ago and found out they're advising starting the renewal process 90 days ahead. I submitted my info via the portal and received an email less than 30 minutes later asking me to call for an in-person appointment. I completed the interview (including the wait time, took about 20 minutes total) and my class is scheduled for Sunday. I should still get my renewal prior to expiration (fingers crossed).
Too many rifles, not enough time...

How did you get access to portal? Did you first email request for renewal?

I went back and looked at the emails. I think I misstated the order of events.

10:56am: emailed LAPD about my desire to renew my CCW per the information on the LAPD CCW site.
          11:13am: received call from LAPD.
11:15am: received email with renewal instructions & link to portal.

LAPD CCW timeline / AZ non resident CCW

everyone’s timeline posts really helped keep me sane while i waited for my turn. i want to share my timeline in case it helps anyone else on here guesstimate how much longer they have to wait.

11/1/2023 - called and left a message asking to be added to waitlist

11/3/2023 - received a call back saying i’ve been added to the waitlist and to expect a call within 6-7 months

6/26/2024 - LAPD called me to tell me they are switching to permitium and they want my email, gave it to them.

8/10/2024 - did my ccw training with Scott @ Apex

8/15/2024 - did live scan and submitted application for Arizona non resident CCW

10/16/2024 - AZ ccw approved (it only took this long because they requested me to do fingerprints again since they claimed the first set weren’t clear enough

4/10/2025 - LAPD calls me to schedule interview appointment, they wanted to give me an interview in June but when i told the officer that i have already done my livescan and training and have my non resident ccw he put me on hold and came back and gave me a wayyy earlier interview appointment of 4/15/2025 which is insaneeee. i’m pretty sure this is the shortest time from call to interview appointment i’ve seen reported anywhere online

4/15/2025 - went to my appointment, was there for no more than 5 min. officer literally asked me zero questions, had me sign a piece of paper and then i went on my way.

4/30/2025 - received an automated call, text and email simultaneously saying my CCW has been approved!

                5/6/2025 - pick up date

insanely long / expensive process and it sucks that we have to wait this long while our neighboring counties are being issued much faster but i am stoked to finally have it.

been carrying everywhere i go since i got it.

hopefully this is of value to some of you on here.

thank you to Palmaris and all of you who regularly kept us updated.

This is really shortest time frame I saw between call for interview and issue! Almost as short ad mine AZ. Lucky man! Congrats.

thanks man. and yea definitely the shortest time between call and interview i’ve seen reported as well.

when i was on the phone the officer originally wanted to give me a date in end of June / early July but when i mentioned that i have everything done and a non resident ccw he said let me put you on hold, and came back with a date just 5 days away. i was sooo happy to hear this.

Now, make sure you use right holster and absolutely right belt to carry. I recommend look into Kore belts.

i’m using a Tier 1 concealed holster and the Hunter Constantine belt. super comfy. i have the Kore belt as well but prefer the constantine belt.

Yes, it comes down to personal preference. I love Kore for stiffness. Is Constantine stiff as well?

kinda hard to explain but it’s stiff enough in the front that it can easily hold the weight of my gun without flopping even if i’m running or jumping. but the back is flexible and this is where the comfort comes from. it stretches to the shape of my body and keeps things snug but comfy.

it’s a bit pricey but in my opinion it’s worth it.

i see what they did. I preferred stiff all around. But again, personal preferences. My holsters are Tulster Oath.
Price shouldn’t be an issue when it comes to EDC.

                                Update (sort of):
Placed on the Wait list : 11/31/2023
Inquired on status: 11/11/2024 - told they are processing applications from 10/2023. Figured should be soon. 🤣
Inquired on status: 05/15/2025 - told I should be expecting a call by 08/2025. I noticed they didn't say an appointment - just a call to schedule an appointment. Looks like it's going to be 2 years.
