I don't believe any of the above would qualify as eligible good cause. Take a look at the page at the link below on the SD County Gun Owners site to get an idea of possible good causes. Most are similar to what it's always been like, but things seemed to have loosened up which is good news.

You should also attend one of their CCW seminars to get a better idea how to craft a good cause.

I'd suggest being careful about how you phrase the girlfriend incident. I don't think they will consider your desire to protect another adult as good cause for YOU to get a permit unless you can emphasize how this represents heightened danger for YOU. I would also avoid the suggestion that if she feels threatened, she is going to call you and you are going to rush to the scene with your gun.

    Just my $.02.

It's been a while since anybody posted on this aspect. Are we seeing any denials for good cause?

Obviously their process is still geared towards the previously really low number of applicants, given it's a government org changing a process usually takes a long time.
Right, I guess if the Sheriff is not ACTIVELY trying to keep people from getting permits, then we can cool down and give the benefit of the doubt. However if a year down the line the wait times becomes 1.5 years or 2 years to get an appointment?

That sucks. In Orange County we choose our appointment date. You can literally have your appointment the following business day after you submit your application.

Got my CCW about two weeks ago in SD (I live in North County - Vista) - process was straightforward/ Apply, submit background, pay fees, approval, test and issuance. Bernardo was the clerk - good dude and knows his stuff and I have been carrying everywhere that I can. Strange feeling to know that you may be the only armed person at that location.
