I finally picked-up (had to go in and pick up the permit) 8/20, about 3 weeks after my training. All-in-all the whole process took me 11 months.

Don't do the training until you've got your approval. My instructor needed to see my confirmation email to proceed. Just be patient, the process takes a while.
Did you try looking for cancelations? I see some posts where folks got lucky and managed to find an early cancelation but certainly don't want to lose my place in the "queue".

    1) whether this sort of wait period is normal as I thought that I needed an appointment before I could even start the approval process
    2) is there anything that I can do in the meantime other than keep training as my understanding is that I cannot schedule the 8 hour CCW class until I get the approval?

The Sheriff's department acknowledged receipt of my training certificate a couple of weeks ago (almost three), so it looks like I may still have to wait a little more until I receive my permit, based on what I've read on this thread.

I just have one question: will it show "Permit Delivered" on Permitium once they print and send it my way? Currently, Permitium shows "Permit Approved".

    Thanks!
They acknowledged my training upload on the 16th of last month and still waiting. It's worse than the 90 day background wait time. Just watching the mailbox like a hound.

What does the green “update progress” button do on the permitium page? It’s towards the bottom next to the blue “logout and close” button.

You can add anytime; qualified with the gun you wanted to add, submit modification online with applicable fee.

In your case, I suggest qualify with all the guns at the time of your training.

Would I have to do multiple courses/tests to get these approved?
Would you guys suggest keeping it simple and just picking one for now?
Thanks in anticipation of your advice.
Definitely do all three. Three is pretty standard. I've got four on mine.
Remember to bring enough ammo for each, plus extra in case you fail anything and have to repeat a course of fire.

You can add guns later on but you'll have to go back and qualify with that weapon...and I'm pretty sure the range will charge you an additional fee for that but don't quote me as I'm not familiar with how PWG does things. It's also kinda a pain to have to go back in so just bring them all and get er done.

    Good luck!

You can add them at anytime but I don't know the exact steps. I know you need to qualify with them and I believe the instructor sends in that paperwork to the Sheriff's office. Your permit needs to be updated with the additions/ deletions and a new permit would be sent to you.

I advocate putting all your concealable guns on your permit. This forms a protective shield for you against legal difficulties resulting from inadvertent transportation errors such as the possibility you thought it was unloaded, but you inadvertently left a round in the chamber or the lock you put in the case did not actually lock when you thought it did. You may also want a variety of guns for different anticipated risks or clothing. The one I carry daily in a proper holster on my belt is different from the smaller one I slip in my pocket just to take out the trash. Different calibers is also a good idea if you can't find ammo for one in the future, you may for the other.
Thank you. These are great points that I had not considered!

There is no reason to limit the guns on your permit. San Diego allows an unlimited number. When you take your training course you will need to demonstrate your proficiency with each one. Each instructor sets his own policy on how many are included in his basic fee and how much he charges for any over the included number.

Many thanks. That is good news
