I find this situation particularly sad and annoying. Really, just how many man hours could it possibly take for somebody to look at the plastic permit and determine if it has the required information, like one?
But because the result of that would be that being a CCW holder would be more convenient, I do not expect it to happen until something forces their hand.

They should have told you. The paper permit is the official permit recognized by the CA DOJ. The CC permit is in case the DOJ gets its act together (unlikely) and approves that permit. You need the paper permit with you per SDCSO.Leave a comment:

12/9/2021 - Home visit, left business card
12/10/2021 - Approval letter
12/12/2021 - Class taken, cert uploaded
12/14/2021 - Cert acknowledged, entered issuance que
1/8/2022 - Permit Received!

first thoughts? man, both the paper and the card both look pretty janky. like, the card is just the paper printed on plastic. no hologram??

The info is what matters, I don't think any CA LEO would accept a CCW without looking up the number to check. Though AZ does have a hologram as I'm sure most other states.Leave a comment:

a sheriff's office employee (i don't know if they were a uniformed officer) came by my apartment to verify my residence. he said he talked to my property
manager. it seems reasonable that he would have identified as being with the sheriff's office, since they were asking about me. nothing has come of it between
me and the property manager. i can't be sure, she seems like she would be anti gun. i don't think the SDSO is advertising they are investigating for the purpose
of ccw. if anyone asked me about it, i would just say i applied to get a special security clearance for a job or something. it's not anyone else's business to know
that i'm armed, and i think the sheriff's office is with it on that.Last edited by pewanon; 01-08-2022, 12:31 PM.Leave a comment:

I don't think they would have any reason to contact your employer if your employment is unrelated to your GC.Leave a comment:

They contacted my employer for job verification only.
Were you using your employment as your GC?

How many of you guys have had someone contact your employer regarding this application process? I have a very very strong inclination that my employer would not like to be notified or contacted regarding this.Leave a comment:

All is silent on the home front. Tuesday was 3 weeks since email confirmation of certificate upload and alleged entry to the issuance que.

Yesterday was two weeks from the email stating my CCW was in the issuance process. Man I feel like this final couple weeks is taking longer than the background check. Haha they said 3-4 weeks so hopefully almost here.Leave a comment:

I never tried applying before. This was my first attempt and I was approved, thankfully.
However, I have friends who tried to apply for their CCW in San Diego County several years ago and at the time the Sheriff basically laughed at them. So the current willingness to approve these CCW's after all these years of no-issue is greatly appreciated by many. I sure hope this trend continues so us law-abiding citizens can defend ourselves. I don't think that's asking too much.
Anyway, now I sit here waiting for the Sheriff to mail my CCW permit after uploading my training cert a week or so ago. Their email said it will take 3-4 weeks, which seems awfully long just to produce a paper and plastic card. But hey, at least I made it this far!Leave a comment:

Good afternoon SD.
I just submitted my application for CCW today.
reading all these comments motivated me to apply.
I have an appointment date of March 28th.
I'm wondering if I can call the sheriff's office and try to schedule an appointment sooner if available.
I'll update this thread as this process continues.
