    Renewal time!

Has anyone been through the renewal process? Mine is a couple months away from expiring... so, I guess I call for an appointment and see how they handle renewals.

Would love to hear from anyone who's gone (or going) through the renewal process.

I'll be very interested to follow your progress. I've been told that renewals should be rather quick and simple if your good cause has not changed, but I have not heard directly from anyone who has gone through it since the "Great Relaxation"

      Keep us posted.
I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.

Since circa 2009\2010 Gore who identifies as Republican has cost the NRA hundreds of thousands of dollars. This good cause thing is of course a fig leaf as Major Calibre points out. He is a distinguished and dignified guy who wanted to save face and get another term under his belt. You have to remember that he was SAC in Seattle during Ruby Ridge and worked in DC under Reno and others who believe that 2nd A in a collective right. Good God, Reagan and the Bushes did much to trash the 2nd A. I don't think Bill Gore loses sleep one way or the other. Thank God the Sheriff evolved on this one. All this cause and character is just so he can save face. I have dealt with the SDLic Div since 1994 and expect to take a certain amt of shait from them. I used to take it personally but I had a 5way CABG of few years back and wat the hey?

I was provided instructions upon first issue what I would need to provide for renewal. I think most also got this? I’m still some time away so also looking to see how it goes with others. Do we still need the eight hour class again or is it four hours and live fire?

Received my approval email yesterday. It was tagged as spam and ended up in my junk folder. 80 Days after my first interview. Realistically I started this process when I transferred to San Diego in March. Bureaucracy at its finest.

Called for my 1st appointment end of Dec; scheduled for late July. Any benefit in taking the mandatory course from the approved list before hand? is there a window in which is must be done? thanks all!

Nope. There is a window that opens but only after you get your approval to take the course.

I believe you can take the course in advance of approval, at your own risk of course that you may waste your time and money if not approved. However unless you have some very unusual circumstances regarding work or travel schedules, I don't know why you would want to. I think your window is 60 days or so after approval, and I believe I was told that if you need longer, just communicate that to the clerk that you are dealing with, and they are quite flexible.

Here's what the Sheriff's website says...

When can I take my firearms course?
The Sheriff's Department cannot require you to take your safety course prior to your application being approved. You may contact one of the approved instructors once your initial fee & fingerprints have been submitted; however the final weapons qualification and your certificate must be within 30 days of your written approval date.

I think DGM has a class every week now due to the demand. So you should be able to find a good time to take it in that 60 day window. Some of the other instructors had it only once a month which just doesn't work.

+1 for the classes at the Morena DGM. A knowledgeable instructor without the usual attitude.
