Prices seem to be pretty consistent across the board. You're looking at about $200 for the 8 hour class and $100 for the 4 hour renewal. I'll be surprised if you find anything much cheaper in the South SD area...but do let us know if you find anything that is significantly less.

Keep in mind that you can do the AZ permit yourself once you get your San Diego permit. The class you take for San Diego is good for AZ. The cost for the AZ permit was whatever the application fee is, and I think I paid around $30 for a set of finger prints. Keep that in mind if someone wants to charge you an arm and a leg for the AZ permit.

Also, constitutional carry can be a bit tricky. You’re not supposed to be carrying within a given distance of certain establishments; schools, etc. it’s better to have the permit than not, for reciprocity and just the ease of obtaining one as well.

getting back to Ca for a second, I thought I saw in one of the threads here that you could not have a gun in a "school zone"

Like when you're driving? Driving past a school?

You can, with a CA CCW (CA honors no other state's CCW).

I live in Chula Vista, so is there anyone else in my area that took their training class somewhere relatively close.

I'm also looking for a moderately-priced class as well. Any info is appreciated.
Pricing is all basically the same. Initial class is going to run $200.

With a CCW and armed you can not be on school property. CCW holders are specifically exempted see PC 626.9 C (4) (4) When the person is exempt from the prohibition against carrying a concealed firearm pursuant to Section 25615, 25625, 25630, or 25645.

temecula?! It was my understanding it would have to be a class specific (or approved in other words) to San Diego county.

Yep and the instructor in Temecula is certified for SD and riverside.

As to DGM. it's due to their pricing and customer service. I've had issues with them in the past and I don' t bother with them. That said it has been close to 15 years since I stepped foot in their so things may have changed. I do hold a grudge for a very long time. I have zero experience with any training they provide so your experience may be fine.

As for a indoor range when I don't want to drive to the desert I use PWG, best range in the county hands down. also top notch Customer Service too. Range pricing is expensive. it's by the hour and they round to the nearest 15 minutes. So you don't want to chit chat on the firing line.
this is also one reason I am a member of SMGC on Pendleton. I can use the MCCS range all day for about $20 rifle or pistol side.

For my CCW training I used Defensivetacticsandfirearms.com

Shane is a great easy going instructor that will not bore you to death with BS or death by power point. Very experienced, and was mentored by a few top instructors too. He's good to go for both SD and Riverside county. Qualification is shot on the Rainbow range and class room work is done in an office in Marietta. I didn't mind the drive.

Uploaded my cert and paid my fees yesterday and received the email that they will mail in 3-4 weeks. I?ve seen this time go down since last year but wondering what the wait time has been for new permits to be received in the mail.

It's been a dozen years at least since I've bought anything from them, so I have no idea how their sales service is at this point. But their CCW course and process is squared away. You can do everything on line and just show up and get it done. Plus there's a decent taco shop across the street for lunchy lunch.

I received my approval email last week while I was out of town. Early Feb interview, so a couple weeks shy of 90 days. Next step is training and I believe my D-i-Law’s brother is certified. Just need to confirm.

Applied Sept 22, Interview Today. I was in and out in 30 mins. They just verified the information on Permitium and now the second waiting game begins.

Again, SD Sheriff Deptartment Permit personnel were friendly, courteous, and efficient. Looks like they were doing nonstop business, so lots of folks applying, all Race, Sex, and Age.
