I just discovered this Appleseed section of CalGuns. I attended the clinic in Dulzura earlier this year (Jan 29/30). Posted some comments afterward in the Centerfire Rifles and Rimfire Firearms sections of the forum, but perhaps this section would have been more appropriate had I known about it.
I definitely recommend an Appleseed! It's a great way to spend a weekend having fun and becoming "one" with your favorite rifle (or two), and about as reasonably priced as you're going to find for an organized training event. Family friendly, low key, great instruction, enjoyable time... the only bad part--well, besides not earning my Rifleman patch that is (the shooting is frustrating sometimes)--was the weather on Sunday... cold, windy, and raining. Yet it was still fun and enjoyable regardless.
Francis, Steve, Leonidus, G-$, and anyone else I might have missed... if you're reading this, thank you for your dedication, commitment, and a job well done!
FYI - For those readers who might be wondering "can I use my xxx rifle at an Appleseed?": As they've already explained in the "Appleseed basics" thread, yes you can. The first day I used a CZ-452 (that's a BOLT action, folks!) and had no problem whatsoever. Obviously a semi-auto is advantageous during timed courses of fire, but by no means necessary to earn that Rifleman patch or acquire the skill set being taught. There was a wide variety of different rifle types/makes/configurations on the firing line, so just about anything you have will suffice. One young lady was even firing her pink single-shot Cricket and having fun. If I'm not mistaken, I believe some guy earned his Rifleman patch with a lever action, too. Just bring whatever floats your boat.

). Remember that the number one thing about a rifleman is that we persist, I didn't get my patch on my first AQT, in fact very few do. Get yourself out there to more appleseeds, use the 6 steps, and persist. The patch will come.
